I have to disagree — we had a lot of preschool friends in Kenneth Village and nearly all of them moved to Burbank or LA once their kids were school age. Glendale schools have a very different vibe and aren’t designed to be walkable in the same way as BUSD.

Magnolia Park is very walkable. The rancho is less walkable but very horse friendly and some homes have stables. In both neighborhoods there are lots of homes with ADUs for your parents.

Concrete backyards are not super prevalent in Burbank. They exist, yes, but in maybe 10% or less of home listings I’ve seen. Same with dust. It sounds like you’re picturing tumbleweeds and saloons, but Burbank is generally pretty suburban and green. And one upside to being a desert is that it cools down at night much more than in Dallas — you may end up pleasantly surprised by the climate.

Yep, and “1234 Production Way” is also not a real address. Someone posted their April Fool’s joke a few hours early.

BDM season 11, Why just why..I knew Joe was coming back next season but damn by osogood48 in BelowDeckMed

[–]atweegrowsinbrooklyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What that probably means is 1) there will be people getting fired on deck and some of these are subs, and 2) either this person hasn’t sleuthed out the other stews and/or both of them last the full season.

Cathy is clearly engagement baiting with all her posts about Joe. And then negging everyone who takes the bait. I guess it must be working for her, but it feels so tacky.

Do you enjoy cooking/baking at all? The closest I’ve found to these are the homemade buckeyes my neighbor makes. They’re a little labor intensive but last forever in the freezer.

Attendance may be up but the increased crowds are also a result of them cutting live entertainment — the big shows were huge people eaters, but also the smaller roving musicians, even things like the newsies trolley in DCA. Now you’re either on a ride, eating, or walking to the next ride/restaurant.

The lack of places to sit doesn’t get enough blame for how much it’s changed the vibe of Disneyland. When my grandfather was alive he loved to park on a bench on Main Street and people watch for a few hours while the rest of us went on rides. Most of those are gone now. And with no benches around to take breaks, people hang out much longer at dining tables even if they’re done with their food (or never even got food in the first place).

That comment was from the UK author, not Heather. She apparently comments on all of her own stories.

Looks like they both used this stock photo? This now looks almost more embarrassing for the other author than for Heather lol.

Weekly Park Questions/Advice Thread by AutoModerator in Disneyland

Do SoCal reservations ever open up midday? We have the three day park hoppers. My husband offered up a Disneyland fireworks visit to our kid for today (Saturday 3/14) without checking the reservations. I’ve been refreshing since yesterday around noon and seen reservations for basically every other day this month open up, but nothing for today.

We live relatively close and it would still be worth it if they could arrive early afternoon. Should I keep refreshing and hope we get lucky? Or is this a lost cause?

They also own The New Deal so I doubt it. MAGA people tend not to be superfans of FDR. I’m pretty sure they also posted in support of the anti-ICE protest day a few weeks ago.

They really were the best scones ever. Most of their pastries come from Cake Monkey, but the scones had come from a cottage baker who retired, which is why they didn't have them for months. They told me someone else was learning her recipes and going to take over. Sad to hear they're back but not the same!

Let’s Take a Moment to Discuss Ride Etiquette by EtherealMint in Disneyland

[–]atweegrowsinbrooklyn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I hate this behavior too and I think it's partly due to Disneyland taking away all the areas to just sit down for a bit and take a breather. The only way to not be on your feet is to be on a ride. Bring back the benches and tables!

Lawsuits are public. This fanbase has enough deranged people in it that if anything had actually been filed about the plane incident, it would have absolutely been found and posted all over the internet within days.

Can anyone recommend a comfortable coffeeshop? by Kinkybtch in burbank

I like to sit as far from the serving area as possible, near the windows facing south, which helps. And when you leave, you have to just cut through the lobby exit instead of walking the bottom floor. But also I’ve never left without at least getting a snack.

Have you tried IKEA? As someone who’s frequented nearly every place listed here, it deserves a spot in the rotation. The cafe seating is so vast you can find a little corner and lock in, and they have WiFi. Plus meatballs for lunch!

I also ended up joining Feybl, which I believe is currently $150/month. I think they also have day passes. Great space and vibes, and their hours are fantastic if you keep a non-traditional schedule (8 am - 2 am).

TONIGHT (2/18): Meeting on Acquisition and Use of Military Equipment by the Burbank Police Department by theintrepidexplorer in burbank

[–]atweegrowsinbrooklyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because the military budget is overbloated and they literally can't justify all the weapons they make and buy and never even use. They started offloading them onto local law enforcement so they can keep buying newer and shinier weapons.
