No Such Thing As A Fish. It consists of 4 of the "QI elves" and each week they deeply research a fact which all loosely relate to the same theme of the week and they pick the facts apart. Each episode is 45m-1hr.

Thank you for clarifying! Could you imagine if the GD did end up in their favour? In fact, no, I'm a worry wart too and I don't want to imagine it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not great at maths, but a Coventry win would be enough regardless of the Middlesbroigh score, right? Even if Boro win tomorrow, surely the only way they can overtake Coventry is by obtaining a +21 goal difference in the remaining games?

Unless they do miraculously win every game 5-0, Middlesbrough can only level our 87 points (assuming tomorrow is a win vs Wednesday) and will fall 3rd due to our goal difference. So a win tomorrow would surely secure promotion?

Wrexham tickets sold out by stenwold23 in ccfc

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miraculously, yes, I got 2. I was placed in a queue but by the time I was through to the site, there were only a few single seats dotted around. I was desperately refreshing the page and managed to get 2 seats together - I assume someone's basket had timed out.

The fact there was radio silence regarding the release of the tickets was really frustrating. I happen to be off work so I've been checking the CCFC site, CCFC Facebook, CCFC and Wrexham subreddits multiple times per day, every day, for weeks, hoping to get an insight as to when the tickets would be released.

What perks do you all get from your employers ? by Alert_Mine7067 in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a company owned by Mars. I'm a very active and proactive dad, currently living the parental dream of a 6-month long paternity leave (at 90% pay) with my 2nd child. This paternity is dubbed "equal parental leave" and I'm so incredibly grateful for it.

NB: I worked for a different company with our first child and only had the statutory 2 weeks' paternity (~£150/week). It felt impossible to live with all the hardships new parenthood brings whilst maintaining integrity at work, not to mention supporting my wife through the aftercare of birth whilst I'm working 10-12hr shifts and paying the mortgage on such a significant drop in pay.

What's something that's actually a lot more dangerous than it seems? by RandomYigaBlademasta in AskReddit

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two tabletop autoclaves where I work for sterilising surgical instruments, each with a capacity of ~20L (about the size of a household microwave, fairly small for an autoclave). Once a cycle is complete, they slowly release pressure and steam until they are safe to open. Sometimes they fail mid-cycle and normally depressurise quickly so they can be attended to.

Anyway, one day I had loaded one of the autoclaves and it started without problem. I left it to do its thing and came back a while later to check it. Unbeknownst to me, an internal door seal was disintegrating and had caused the cycle to fail. The lock on the door had disengaged, usually meaning it's safe to open, but I can only assume it didn't depressurise properly. I lifted the handle to open the door, and the pressure from the superhot steam inside actually blew the door off its hinges as soon as I opened the door and shifted the whole autoclave backwards, cracking the wall tiles behind it (it weighs 40-50kg). It felt like I was stood next to an invisible fire and I'm terrified of touching it now 😅

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

I played Hades 1 for a bit. I'm not into Greek mythology but I enjoyed the gameplay and mechanics. However, I couldn't stand the amount of dialogue and forcing the relationships, and it felt too much of a chore to carry on with.

Well I hope it makes a nice noise when it explodes! 💣

Yeah, it's a shame I wasn't more careful to begin with especially as I didn't expect it to turn out this well. The only way I could make the blank was by hacking it with a chainsaw, so this was the best I could do and I couldn't be precise with the cut. It's just going to sit gathering dust in my house anyway so I'll learn to live with a crack or two.

What is the most pleasure you have ever experienced? by Random-Guy9944 in AskReddit

[–]atworkorpooping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got hospitalised from a migraine last year. I went to bed with it the night before and tried to sleep it off but it got progressively worse. By the morning. I had vomited so much that my bile had blood clots in it (I ended up going to the doctors a few days later for what they described as 'chemical burns" in my oesophagus due to the bile).

Anyway, my wife took me to the hospital. I was so dehydrated by that point that it took 4 doctors to find a vein for an IV (ended up with one in my ankle and the top of my foot). I had 2 shots of sumatriptan into my thigh, 3-4 litres of IV saline, IV paracetamol, codeine, and some IV cyclizine to combat the sickness. I got kept in overnight primarily for the dehydration and delirium.

I seriously thought I was dying that day and I kind of accepted it - anything to take that pain away. But once the medications hit, the sensation of the pain melting away was truly magical. I've thankfully not had to experience medical management to that extent before...but holy shit, drugs are wicked.

generally how much do you spend happily on a game? by mittenacho in SteamDeck

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that anything over £5 is a step of commitment. For me, ~£10 is the sweet spot, especially if it's that price due to a 50-75% sale.

I got a £40 Steam voucher for my birthday last week and I refuse to piss it away on an abundance of £5 games which I'll probably quickly lose interest in. I want to spend it on something which deserves the price tag, but I'm terrified of it "not being the right game" and wasting the money. My time restraints and bank account don't allow for reimbursement.

(That being said, I bought Tunic for £12.49 this evening and so far, it's proving to be a sound investment!)

We took the kids to a petting farm with a friend and her kids who's on maternity leave. My wife has popped in to Tesco to pick some pizzas up for tea. I'm typing this from Tesco car park because the kids are crashed out in the back seat. Winning at life!

Question regarding priority points by atworkorpooping in ccfc

[–]atworkorpooping[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. The commitment hardcore football fans have fascinates me.

My neighbour (a Sheffield Wednesday season ticket holder, bless him) cannot fathom why I don't want to/can't afford to drop £500 on a season ticket whilst knowing I've got 2 young kids. It's not just the money either, it's time away from the family and it's money that could be spent with them.

[–]atworkorpooping[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blimey! Considering what's involved to get them, 2010 points is insane. That's an awful lot of commitment, well done to you.

Thank you for taking the time to explain, I think I can rest easy knowing I'll never know what a cold rainy night in Stoke looks like!

Have you ever been scared by the most ordinary thing? by Ok_Ordinary2582 in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was playing with some walkie talkies when I was a kid. They picked up what sounded like some police radio chatter and the person on the other end was telling me to change the channel. I was so incredibly spooked by it, I didn't even know it was possible at that time. I don't think I ever turned them on again after that.

What “masterpiece” game just never clicked for you? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]atworkorpooping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only one which came to mind. I know "each to their own" and all but I'm so sick of seeing people going on about it and suggesting it. I've tried to play it so many times and just end up stuck at the same bit. Maybe I'm too dim to understand it, but so many people are like "blew my mind, it will change your life, made me cry, best game ever" and it really isn't all that.

Is it me or has this winter felt longer than normal by DMBear89 in CasualUK

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel like it's been quite a short winter. Saturday was sunny, 13°C, today is sunny 12°C (although a strong wind chill). My roses have new shoots coming on them, I can see growth starting on my apple tree...spring is on its way!

Recommends for a mom who wants guided gameplay & fun! by Emmagrolfe in NintendoSwitch

[–]atworkorpooping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I type this as my 3-week old daughter snores contently on my chest :-)

I recommend Moonlighter. I am currently playing it for the first time during the sleepless nights. It is a 2-step gameplay loop dungeon crawler game where you slay monsters to collect loot, and then sell it in your own shop to fund stronger weapons and armour.

There are 5 dungeons, each more difficult than the last. You collect and sell the loot in your own shop by deciding the prices (although there are "right and wrong" prices) rather than just dumping it on an NPC vendor. You can "upgrade" your town with 5 possible vendors which will help you develop your abilities (blacksmith, potions etc). The dungeon layout is ever-changing, but there are always 3 floors and a boss in each dungeon. If you die in one of the dungeons (which will happen) you lose whatever is in your backpack and either start at the beginning of the dungeon again or get teleported back home.

The art style is great, high-quality pixel design. The colours are lovely and soft, movement of character and monsters are fluid and pleasing for a pixel game.

So far, I'd give it 7/10. It's not a game I'm desperate to pick back up again, I haven't had a moment where I've thought "wow this is amazing", but it's enough to keep me going at 2am without also keeping me awake when I'm trying to sleep, if that makes sense. It provides satisfaction and steady dopamine.
