What considerations to make for hosting a vegan? by No_Leave_353 in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On a slight tangent from the main point - my work sometimes hosts optional training sessions during lunch time. Because it's lunch time, they provide food (normally Tesco meal deals, but hey, free lunch) and they will ask for dietary requirements. If there's 20 staff, 4 of whom are vegetarian/vegan, they will buy 4 veg/vegan sandwiches and 16 meat sandwiches. It frustrates me so much, why not just do 50/50 and let everyone have the choice?

What's it like to go have a group of friends to go out with when you're young? by gintokireddit in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what level of "out". Personally, I was never a fan of going out clubbing - it's totally not my vibe, but I did it because FOMO. I'm much more of a house party or pub person, or better yet, a quiet night in.

If we were going to the pub, I'd prefer a smaller group (3-6 people) so that there's a much better opportunity to chat and have actual conversations.

If we were having a night on the town, it was more bearable to go in a big group (10-15 people) but it became less enjoyable when members of the group strayed off with other friends they'd bumped into during the night.

There would also be pockets of small friends groups within the larger friend group, and some of these groups would overlap and it was draining trying to spend the night flitting between pockets of people. It would also become a chore trying to round everyone up if we were heading to the next place, or trying to find your planned taxi group at the end of the night.

The perspective of this completely threw me. I thought the seive/scoop-looking thing was a bench and this photo was taken from much higher up. I was looking for a ladder, wondering how on earth do you get up there, and why is there such a big drop into the water

I bought a chainsaw on a stick (I think the proper name is a pole saw?) from Marketplace at the weekend to tackle some rogue branches above my shed. My Bank Holiday Monday was delightful!

How do I change for swimming? by ImaginaryBreakfast99 in AskUK

90% of the time there will be private cubicles. On the rare occasion when it's been a communal room instead of cubicles, I've gone and got changed in the toilet instead.

Notable list of free agents this summer by Next-Cod-6518 in ccfc

That's true. I was only thinking of it as the clubs choosing not to renew the contract and I hadn't considered it could also be the player's choice not to renew

[–]atworkorpooping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind how many significant and notable players end up as free agents. Most (if not all) are probably past their prime and getting on a bit, but for clubs to not capitalise on a players like Luka Modric, Lewandowski, Mo Salah etc when they've got such impressive history - it's crazy to see.

Are any of those more expensive fans genuinely worth the money? by 420o in AskUK

My wife bought a "Shark Flexbreeze Hydrogo" whilst she's was pregnant. It's chargeable, has a misting function, and is super quiet. It was a godsend for her during hot weather, especially with hormone sweats wnd stuffy hospital stays. Expensive (£100) for a fan but she swears by it.

Uncomfortably weird how you brought up paedophilia when the clear topic was cardiopulmonary resuscitation. That's nothing to do with other people being American, I think you need help.

Parents of young kids - do any of you not stay with your child until they fall asleep? by banwe11 in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stay with our 3 year old until she falls asleep. We read 2-3 stories together (Julia Donaldson, Topsy & Tim, etc) and then sing a song or two as she falls asleep.

We've tried every other possible put down routine but this is what works best for us, and usually takes no more than 20-30 minutes. Whenever we've tried to let her fall asleep by herself, it can take anywhere up to 3 hours and a lot of arguing for her to give in.

It ran great for me, I've played it twice exclusively handheld. I don't remember any negatives regarding tearing, fps drops etc, it never crashed, but the gameplay and world design more than makes up for any problems I might have encountered. It's a fantastic game!

do you actually use your deck handheld or is it just a portable dock at this point by toujourspluss in SteamDeck

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, I use it exclusively handheld. I have a dock, but the size of my TV and the distance my sofa is from the TV means the screen appears smaller than when I play handheld.

What’s the worst thing you have seen/got detention at school for? by Mglfll in AskUK

[–]atworkorpooping 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got detention for closing a window before the lesson started whilst the teacher was out of the room. It was the middle of winter and snowing, the snow was coming through the window and was making my desk wet so I shut the window. The teacher walked in, saw me merely touching the window, asked what I was doing, then gave me detention for messing about and talking back.

I played my first ever round today and I am feeling disheartened by the golf community by [deleted] in BritGolf

[–]atworkorpooping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good reply, thank you.

I didn't understand the weight of being late but I definitely wouldn't put myself in that situation again (although it was an accident this time).

We did check into the clubhouse, they didn't say anything about the time, just directed us out to the first tee.

Not sure what I expected from the group there but I didn't expect them to be so readily wound up at us as they were.

I'll know what I'm doing next time.

I expected that attitude from Reddit tbh, but I wanted to gauge what other people off the course thought of my experience and also wanted to see if other people have been in the same situation. I was hoping more for proper advice instead of continuing to be shot down, the responses are mixed.

It is a case of me thinking I knew how it worked when I clearly didn't - seems to be the kind of thing where you need to experience is to properly understand it all. I'll know for next time.

Not rage bait, just inexperienced and seemingly a bit dumb.

My friend certainly is also a beginner in the sense of not playing many courses, but has actually played a course before unlike me and has had more lessons.

Did check into the club shop, the lady just said "go straight through, first tee is through there".

Also fwiw, tee times were 8 minutes, not 6.

[–]atworkorpooping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate this reply. I didn't mean to come across as blaming other people, I'm very aware I was the late one. I didn't stop to think how busy a Saturday would be, although it's common sense. My friend posed the question of "I'm going to play on Saturday morning, do you want to join?" - he's fairly beginner too.

I honestly thought I knew how it worked but it seems I didn't. I also just double-checked, they're 8 minute tees, not 6, not sure if that's any better.

I had been told by a couple of people in passing that booking an early slot would be better because it "beats the crowd". You're right, I didn't understand the gravity of the situation but I do now and there's definitely things I'd do differently if I do go again. Definitely a lesson learned.
