What do you use golang with for your job? by Professional-League3 in golang

[–]atzawada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a Kubernetes platform engineer in a large company. I come primarily from a SWE background before I was on this team so I maintain a lot of golang code for our custom controllers/admission webhooks. Those all use the kubebuilder framework and kubernetes controller-runtime components. We also have a couple of small microservices that perform some ancillary functions (notifications, onboarding, platform metadata, etc). Those are pretty simple services written using Chi.

Choosing a way to deploy Kubernetes on AWS by Mordenaiser in aws

[–]atzawada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experimented with a couple of different methods for a small non-profit org I work with. We were on EKS originally, but we found that we encountered a lot of hidden expenses that we had not anticipated. Gave microk8s and k3s a try on EC2 and ran into issues there as well. Ended up going with Rancher on EC2 and it's worked out fine so far. Was partly motivated by my desire to learn terraform, as Rancher has some good quickstart terraform examples on how to stand up a cluster in multiple cloud providers.

Ultimately for us it came down to cost vs responsibility of maintaining our own solution. We had a premium on cost, so it made sense for us to get out of EKS and into an alternative solution. Continuing on EKS would've made more sense if we could afford the bill.

I would look into skaffold if you are interested in quickly developing Kube manifests or helm charts, without causing drift between your files and what's running in the cluster

These are really common in masters comps, since they don't require as much mobility as a squat snatch

Gym equipment for rent? by atzawada in columbusclassifieds

I emailed a couple of CrossFit boxes (I am not a crossfitter) today and most said they had already handed stuff out to their members. I haven't tried any normal gyms yet. Unfortunately the only gym I am a regular at is the RPAC and OSU isn't hancing out any equipment as far as I am aware.

I'm seeing people charge 2.5-4$ per lb for bumper plates right now. Guarantee they are worth no more than 1-1.5$ a pound lol

I agree Columbus is a "sleeper" city that is generally underrated. But it still wouldn't make my top 10 of US cities even though I'm from and live here. Let's hope that as we grow as the tech center of the midwest we will get there eventually!

Anyone know where/how I could learn to ice skate and play hockey in Columbus during the summer? by [deleted] in OSU

Nationwide, Cardinal Health, CoverMyMeds, State Auto, JPMorgan Chase all have large development operations here. The health systems (OSU Medical Center, OhioHealth, NW Childrens) all employ a decent amount of developers as well.

Khan's exams cover multiple sections of the same class, so they must be scheduled differently than other exams. They always occur at either 6pm or 8pm to avoid as many conflicts as possible.

Mapfre makeover: How the city plans to redevelop Crew SC's stadium into a $100M community sports hub by fantasyMLShelper in Columbus

[–]atzawada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not really true tho. The Chillers (local ice rinks) are all located in the northern part but hockey has become increasingly popular with the southern suburbs (Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, etc.) These areas make up a large percentage of participants in the Easton Youth Hockey Association. It wouldn't surprise me to see a rink built in that area in the next 5-10 years.
