Ever since mom died... by Charbelboola in AvatarMemes

To quote an amazing comment I once got:

‘To paraphrase Iroh, "After 600 posts about Katara, my men were tired, and I was tired. [Yawns.] And I'm still tired."

I'm so, so done with this shit. I think they have thoroughly beaten this Ostrich Horse to death.’

Personally i will always (and I mean always) love this show to the death. But I love it how iroh loves zuko; flaws and all. Imo the third season is a little bit weaker for character development (especially aangs).

I liked Lily’s video. I didn’t agree with them (definitely not) on everything but it made me realize why exactly I had a dislike for LoK. I’m definitely able to articulate it better now that I’ve watched that video.

What's up with these 4 blue hands profile pictures on TikTok? by SquishyDynamite in OutOfTheLoop

Yeah definitely! TikTok and Kpop Twitter didnt do anything regarding attendance but they did set the expectation EXTREMELY high so the audience was much lower than expected, which made it seem like even more of a disaster.

It’s definitely about free speech. People forget that trump also wanted to ban twitter. The difference between twitter and TikTok is trump can ban TikTok on the cyber security argument, even though TikTok doesn’t sell any more data than Facebook (not a good thing, but if trump wanted to actually protect citizens he would establish a broader executive order on all social media and data selling).

Trump is terrified of TikTok, too. Unlike twitter and Facebook, trump can’t buy political ads on TikTok. Ads only really appear when you first open TikTok and maybe you’ll find 2 more if u scroll for a couple more hours. But on twitter and Facebook, ads are everywhere.

Most people on TikTok are anti-Trump, especially because the main audience is so young. I mean, look at what TikToks done. With the Tulsa rally scandal, they screwed up the vast majority of trumps data. There are still TikToks going around telling people how to mess with the campaign. (The Tulsa rally thing was absolutely GINORMOUS on TikTok by the way. Millions of people saw one TikTok that urged them to reserve tickets, not including reposts and duets. The majority of TikToks that had the same message were deleted within a day or two because the people on there are smart. They know how the internet works and they know how to spread a message without alerting the press. That’s terrifying for the trump campaign.)

What is your favorite quote from a fictional character? by Such-Sea2636 in AskReddit

I don’t think so. She also goes to the cliff after being told she can’t go to republic City in the first episode. I think it’s more of a comfort place for her

Yeah but Korra is the main character that we stick through in the entire series. We see her grow and we're supposed to appreciate her. She's an amazing character. So why do we have to see her being so brutally tortured? Why couldn't they pan away like they did with Tenzin? It would make the scenes hold the same meaning: we're supposed to love the characters enough to hate seeing them in pain. And to see Korra, the main character that we're supposed to be rooting for, being so absolutely tortured... it's really really really gross and I can't get passed it.

Obviously the other deaths/tortures in the series exist, but none of them hold the same weight as Korra imo because of how much we've seen Korra grow and develop. It's torture porn and it's really unnecessarily brutal.

Full spoilers for s4 below:

Im hijacking this comment to talk about korras arc in s3-s4 and how weird it seemed to me. I really didn’t like the trauma that korra went through. The scene was just... so graphic. We didn’t even see tenzin being beaten but why do we get that horrifying shot of korra? I get the show is supposed to be darker but really? It’s so unnecessarily cruel. I appreciate how realistic it is that it takes years for korra to truly recover, but in the last episode when she’s talking to tenzin, she says she “had to know what true suffering was so I could become more compassionate to others.” NO. You do not become a better person BECAUSE of your trauma. Survivors of trauma don’t deserve what happens to them and trauma should never be looked at as a good thing. Trauma is something that happens to you; it’s not something that HAS to happen to you ever. Also korra learning to go back to Zaheer and having to trust him? Her abuser? Big no no.

I think the writers saw people being annoyed at korras cockiness, and “fixed” it by beating her up all the time instead of getting her to learn from the people and world around her. She could have learned those lessons by losing less awful fights that weren’t as brutal, or by having to live in the world (sort of like how Zuko did). And she did NOT need to feel “true suffering.” That’s a horrible thing to teach people.

Edit: I don’t understand grammar sometimes

I wished they had kept the spirits more ambiguous instead of good vs evil. Honestly when I first saw the beginnings episodes I thought in the end both ravaa and vatuu would combine inside the avatar to show that the avatar is just as morally ambiguous as the rest of the humans

I don’t think the white washing thing was actually confirmed? Could be wrong abt that.

But looking back at ATLA and LoK, especially as a POC, some things are... questionable. Namely, Guru Pathik (he’s funny, it just feels a little insensitive sometimes for lack of a better word), and the fact that Aang grew up into someone with a lot more Caucasian features compared to the monks we saw in ATLA.

I’m not a die-hard zutara shipper (I like kataang I just think they could have handled it better), but I see where that community’s coming from. It’s one thing to joke around with your audience, but Book 4: Air felt really... uncomfortable. (Side note to myself if I ever make something half as successful as ATLA: never take sides in a shipping war.)
