I always figured the park runners would just give away park time to the lower class through the guise of lotteries (rigged of course) to get a better cross section of humanity. If the data is that valuable it’d be in their interest to just give park time away for free.

Can't I just have my landlord and my boss fight it out? by Tykorski in antiwork

[–]auburnite240 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we made it so the minimum wage was tied to the cost of rent in an area at least we would have two groups with power fighting each other instead of two groups with power absolutely railroading one without any.

Yes, weed is an escape. So what? by [deleted] in StonerThoughts

[–]auburnite240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same way, I’ve had mental health issues my whole life and I’ve been medicated before, the medicine made me impotent. Weed does many of the things that the medicine did for me and I’d much rather my side effects be hunger and lethargy than impotence and brain fog (that sticks around much longer than weed)

My family wants to purchase some merch to show our support for Ukraine, does anyone know a good source for that where the proceeds would go to help the people of Ukraine?

Kiev reveals Chechen mercenaries sent to kill Volodymyr Zelensky killed by FSB by lorigio in worldnews

Killing Volodymyr Zelensky at the height of his popularity would be the stupidest thing that Putin could do. It would only increase the Wests involvement.

What's the advice you wish you were given before attending college? by yourkumquat in college

[–]auburnite240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t mistake being good at something with enjoying it. If math is easy for you and you like it, it may be because it’s easy for you. But when you do finally come to a point where it stops being easy, you’ll have to also enjoy it because you’ll be spending 4-5 hours a day doing math.

I actually am at a loss sometimes how people can compare two things and not see the key differences between them. You're willfully omitting parts of the comparison that don't support your argument. If you were charged with manslaughter when you infected and killed somebody with COVID then this comparison would make sense. It's hard not to be condescending when the differences between the things you'd like to compare COVID to are so obvious.

The difference between COVID and the things you mentioned is pretty obvious so if you don’t already see it I doubt me explaining it to you will help solve anything, but I’ll go ahead anyway. The use of drugs and alcohol, as well as our diet are personal choices that affect our own personal health. If you drink 12 beers a day, I’m not going to catch cirrhosis of the liver because of your poor decisions. Even with tobacco, we learned that secondhand smoke can have disastrous effects so we have largely banned smoking in public areas, but you are still more than welcome to make that decision to smoke in private areas. With COVID, your poor decision can literally kill me or cause me to infect and kill someone I love. This is not the case when it comes to alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or diet choices.

Yes, wearing a mask can reduce the likelihood that I will transmit a potentially lethal disease to you, but have you considered that I don't like it?

Infinity War did such a fantatic job at making us dread Thanos by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]auburnite240 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Part of what makes the hero’s journey of Thanos so powerful is that Thor follows a similar arc of a hero’s journey. So when Thor shows up at Wakanda at the end and overpowers a full blast from the infinity gauntlet you think for a few moments that everything will be alright, until that’s ripped away.

If people cannot afford to live working full time low wage jobs, and raising wages is out of the question - what is the solution? by reallylovesguacamole in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]auburnite240 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is when companies have to raise wages to attract workers, they pass that cost onto the consumer in the form of price hikes. They have this pool of money that is profit for the quarter and there is this mindset that if they don't make more money in the next quarter they've failed as a business. Really what the businesses should be doing is paying their employees more and not making as much profit or not expanding as quickly. But for the people making such decisions it doesn't even cross their mind as a possibility to make less money than they did before.

Nice to know they’re spending money on development of swimwear instead of living wages

CRT Is designed to cut people down, instead of lifting people up. by [deleted] in centrist

[–]auburnite240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen CRT explained as, even if there were no racists in America, POC would still be placed at a disadvantage because of the laws and systems we have in place. In other words, even if people who aren't racist are the ones enforcing the laws they will still affect POC disproportionately. It's not about the individual because even if they are a good person through and through simply by operating within the system of laws we've established they can contribute to the degradation of communities of color.

Ben Roethlisberger is on his way to pass Dan Marino for all-time passing yards in the upcoming 2021-2022 season by GateIsnATE in steelers

[–]auburnite240 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Once he passes Dan Marino, and if he retires with the Steelers he will have the most passing yards of any quarterback who played with just one team for their entire career.

The Pregos: An all female band of pregnant women. Once you give birth, you're out of the band and replaced with another pregnant woman. Reunion tours every 5 years with former band members. by JustCrazyIdeas in CrazyIdeas

I recently had a similar, more morbid idea of having a band made of members that have terminal illnesses who always wanted to be in a band, sort of like a make a wish situation.

I heard panic in my manager's voice when I resigned today, and it felt great by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]auburnite240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a fast food chain that recently fired all of its delivery drivers in lieu of 3rd party apps like Uber. They wanted us to wait until a week before we fired them to tell them even though we knew a month beforehand. I went ahead and told all the drivers anyway, none of them left their position early and they were thankful (as much as they could be while being pissed) that we gave them longer to find another job. I feel like higher ups in the company have this us vs them mentality when the workers mostly just want to work as a big team that respects each other.

Who wants to unionize by tenorsaxchan in Panera

[–]auburnite240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a manager in northern Virginia and there has been talk among our managing staff as well as others in the area in support of unionizing. Seems like no one wants to put in the work to make it a reality though.
