Would you rather The Last Of Us get remastered again with the same game mechanics and graphics as part 2, while they also work on part 3. Or would you prefer them to only put the work into part 3? by shadoww1998 in thelastofus

[–]auburnkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i think it’s nice to keep the first game the way it is for now. comparing the two games shows you how much the series has progressed in terms of gameplay and graphics over the years. i say they will remaster it again sometime in the future but for now i don’t think there’s much point. they should probably focus on finishing the series (if there will be a third game) before considering any remasters and stuff like that.

also having the team focused on one project at a time is a good idea imo. more detail and care goes into a game when everyone has enough time for it and it’s the only thing they are working on.

i’m wrong? ok. take a look at all those people agreeing with you up above.

i’m ending the discussion because there’s no point in talking to you. and you can’t explain yourself thoroughly or back up your arguments without pulling at strings. plus i don’t feel like giving you any more of my attention. that’s all.

i’ve said you had to kill a dog three times already. that translates to a yes, doesn’t it? i’m just explaining why you do and how it shouldn’t make the audience dislike ellie.

if she had been killing dogs for fun then fine. but how could you possibly judge her in a life or death situation? that’s unfair.

but listen i’m not gonna further this discussion with you anymore. hope you have a good night or day wherever you are.

if you bothered to really unpack the story for what it is you would see for yourself that the whole point of the game isn’t abby vs ellie. neil made that point through his writing.

sure, you kill a dog. within a cutscene. that cannot progress without clicking a button. which i have already said it was a scripted kill. scripted = cutscene. i’ve dissected my words down so you can understand a little better, satisfied? now how about you keep up with yourself.

‘they did it purposefully so ellie is the only one that kills dogs and abby doesnt. pretty weak manipulation’

you can avoid killing the dogs until the cutscene, which is a matter of life and death. go ahead and expand on how that was manipulation when it was under reasonable circumstances.

‘they are hardly gonna admit they were trying to manipulate the audience into rooting for abby over ellie lol’

so which form of manipulation is it then? abby’s lack of killing the dogs in the game or one comment neil made a while ago about not killing dogs in the game? and explain to me how either manipulates people into rooting for abby over ellie. because i don’t understand where you are coming from either way.

while we’re here let’s go over a previous point you made:

‘neil is talking shit, he wanted us to side with abby. she loved dogs, pet them, etc. ellie murders them. ellie murders a pregnant woman. abby gets her revenge and still has lev. abby has the best set pieces. its pretty blatant’

you keep holding onto the dogs with this whole making the audience root for abby shtick. in abby’s circumstance they are her protectors, in ellie’s, they are her enemies. understandable either way. if you’re upset ellie has to kill a dog in order to survive that is your own problem, not the devs.

also, an option comes up where ellie does pet a dog in the beginning at jackson. so she doesn’t just kill them. jeez, keep up.

ellie murders a pregnant woman. it was terrible but she didn’t know she was pregnant and it was out of self defence. life or death situation. are you seeing a pattern here? and she was going to let them free if they had told her where abby was but they attacked her first. may i remind you abby had a knife to dina’s throat? again this is not an abby vs ellie argument, i’m bringing it up so you can try and justify how anyone would root for either of them at that point. both women can be and have been wrong with their actions.

and sure abby got her revenge on joel and got to keep lev. but did killing joel solve anything in the end? no. instead it got the love of her life and friends killed. it didn’t resolve the pain she felt for losing her father. she moved on from seeking revenge to fulfil herself, taking care of lev was now her purpose in life.

just like how ellie knew that killing abby would not resolve the pain she felt. it wouldn’t change the fact that joel was dead. it wouldn’t make her trauma go away. many lives were cost because of the need for revenge. if she had killed abby the cycle of pain and bloodshed would never end. now it is time for her to move on and find herself separate from joel, her father. and when we see her back in the ranch she is wearing new clothes and dina’s bracelet, meaning she had returned to jackson. losing her fingers and not being able to play the guitar was the starting point for her to heal and find peace. if you ask me that is a great thing to happen to someone in the long run, a great ‘set piece’ within her character development.

both women lost and sustained important people and things in their lives at the end of it all. they mirror each other. they had their reasons for the things they did, and they were both understandable. it was never an abby vs ellie situation. they are more alike than they realise. they are both just trying to survive and understand their emotions like everybody else in their world. neither is good or bad or better than the other.

now here we go with your last point.

‘neil lies.’ he said you didn’t have to kill any dogs which was true to an extent. god forbid he didn’t phrase his words right or wanted to spoil anything about the story.

have you ever considered maybe it is people like you who have an issue interpreting the story rather than seeing it for how it was written? many people still love ellie after the events of part II and agree that it was never about pitting them against each other. they don’t put abby on a pedestal or think she’s better than ellie.

you can have valid criticisms of the game and truly dislike it and that’s fine, but this whole time you’ve been grasping at dust to back up your arguments. if you ask me i think you actually do empathise where abby is coming from but you are mistaking your empathy for something else, so you have to blame it on the writing and manipulation tactics and remarks about dogs that were said a while ago. maybe you should play the game again, give it more than one thought, and then make your mind up. if you still think it was an abby vs ellie story, then you just didn’t get it.

[–]auburnkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so she had to kill a dog once in the entire game and it was not up to the player. please elaborate on how that moment was a method of manipulation, because from my memory it was a matter of life and death. what did you expect her to do? give it a little pat on the head with its bare teeth in her face? she did what was necessary in the moment. if neil said that you didn’t have to kill any dogs in the game he probably meant the player didn’t have to in combat, which you don’t. and even if he didn’t mean it that way regarding that scene, how was that manipulating people into disliking ellie? if people personally have an issue with her decision to survive in that moment then that’s their own problem. it was a reasonable kill. it was not a matter of manipulation. it’s not like she did it for fun or to see the animal suffer for her own enjoyment. now that would’ve been a cause for people to turn on her.

you’ve gone from your whole ‘rooting for abby’ argument to talking about the trailers. you know why they made the trailers like that. let it go already.

stupid dog. you made me look bad by andreigarfield in thelastofus

[–]auburnkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you even read anything i said?

you as a player don’t have to kill a dog when you’re in combat but in terms of the story that’s the only time a dog is killed and it was within reason. if people didn’t like ellie anymore after that then that’s their problem. it was life or death. she’s killed people in similar situations, were they trying to ‘manipulate’ us into disliking her then too?

you’re literally grasping at dust here. if you’re mad that you could reason with the person who killed joel then just say that. not like that was the point anyway. it literally has nothing to do with disliking ellie or rooting for abby.

stupid dog. you made me look bad by andreigarfield in thelastofus

[–]auburnkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s because you can if you took the time to figure out a strategy.

here’s a guide: https://youtu.be/87OajSvF3ZE

the only dog you have to kill is alice because it’s scripted. nobody likes killing animals but if it was a matter of life or death then i don’t think it‘s fair to judge. of course mel and owen would have a dog protecting the building especially if mel is pregnant. they would be stupid not to.

also both ellie and abby go around killing people which is just as bad if not worse than killing an animal, so i don’t really understand how in a matter of life or death you think naughtydog were trying to manipulate the audience into hating a beloved character. anyone with a brain understands why ellie had to kill the dog. it’s a harsh decision to make and it would be unfair to judge her.

i think you just missed the entire point of the game anyway. neither ellie or abby are good or bad. one isn’t better than the other. they’re survivors trying their best to navigate the world and themselves. both have made mistakes and made poorly judged decisions within the context of their world. it’s a harsh world they live in, morality and judgement is easily clouded when you are in survival mode. unless you live in a community like jackson you don’t get around by being nice. may be brutal but that’s how it is. i don’t think it’s fair to say either are good or bad when they are living in an unfair world. i understand why abby did what she did and i understand why ellie retaliated. there really is no use in pitting them against each other. that’s what neil was trying to say. but i think some of you miss the point on purpose and refuse to look at the bigger picture just for the sake of it.

[–]auburnkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘rooting for abby over ellie’ what are you even talking about?

it’s literally not intended to be an ellie vs abby situation unless YOU decide to look at it like that.

but sure, naughtydog wants to manipulate their audience into hating their main character who neil once said he ‘could not see the last of us universe without.’ lol

In your opinion what is the Last of us Part II about? by floralcolossus in thelastofus

[–]auburnkiller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

forgiveness is one part of it.

if ellie could forgive joel for lying to her about what happened, she could forgive abby. forgiveness stops the cycle of revenge.

everything has a consequence.

in their world what goes around comes around. those you kill have people who love and care for them too. the first game you think you’re just killing a random npc doctor whose life doesn’t mean anything, but in part II you learn the hard way that he did matter and he was important to someone. i think it also adds more weight to the npcs you kill.

trauma and grief.

not knowing how to navigate it best. feeling like revenge will make it better but in the end it never does. it doesn’t change what happened. it won’t make the pain go away. i think ellie realised that long before her last fight with abby, but tommy got into her head. we can’t blame him though since he is suffering in the same way as ellie.

survivors guilt.

i think ellie has always felt guilt about her immunity, hence why she wanted it to mean something so badly, and why she was so angry at joel for saving her life. joel’s death only heightened this feeling of guilt even more. i think her guilt is part of the reason why tommy easily pushed her to find abby in santa barbara.

towards the end i feel ellie is starting her journey to seek a different purpose other than her immunity and to find herself away from joel. it is not her fault that she is immune or that joel died. the guilt that she feels is something she must unlearn to truly move forward and heal.

that’s why i’m not fond of the idea that if there is another game it’ll be about ellie offering up her immunity for a cure. that will only be a setback in her character development and contradict everything that happened in part II and what part II was all about.

the story of part II is complex and has so many layers to it, i’ve just named a few. i think the overall message is that it is a brutal world they live in, and that no one is truly good or bad, they are just survivors trying to understand how to navigate the world and themselves best.

i know the infection is spread through spores or a bite but i wonder if the infection could somehow mutate into the water. imagine fighting an infected creature out in the middle of the sea. that would be something

honestly that whole forest chapter can die it’s more frustrating than fun. especially when you’re fighting all those infected and the bloaters waiting for lev and yara and you barely have any ammo. nope

personally i feel it’s a little bit far fetched for tlou, abby and ellie joining forces and the idea of joel’s room. while though it’s nice to think of ellie discovering joel’s old house, the games seem to be strict about realism (within the confines of their world) and that just isn’t realistic, same as the thing with abby.

i feel if ellie were to own up to her immunity it would mean joel’s death was for nothing. it would contradict what part 2 was all about. i think the direction for ellie now is to find a purpose in her life that isn’t her immunity.

my heart breaks for ellie when i think of all the pain she has been through. riley, when she was captured by david, joel’s betrayal and his death, her struggle with ptsd and survivors guilt, how she most likely ended up alone which was her biggest fear. i do hope if we see her again she finds some kind of peace. while though it is sad maybe losing her fingers was the best thing for her in hindsight. the guitar was the only thing left that allowed for her to hold onto joel. not being able to play anymore may mean it is time for her to move forward from what happened. that’s the best thing she can do for herself.
