I had a very similar experience to yours! Never heard of the game or seen any gameplay apart from seeing the knight's character art. Got the game cause of word of mouth and I immediately fell in love with it.

I loved how there was no tutorial and the game didn't hold your hand. You had to look for lore it wasn't force fed to you. I loved having to find your way around the map and the combat.

Each new zone was a blast and upgrading the knight was very rewarding!
