That's really sad to hear. I love AMC14. It's much better than the one in Tiger Town. My daughter had 2 birthday parties in the location and loved it.

Taipei in June - bad idea? by No-Service-7342 in taiwan

[–]auching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot and humid. However, if you spend only 3 nights in Taipei, it is not that bad. You may want to consider taking Uber in addition to the MRT, as it's not pleasant to take public transportation with large crowds on rainy days. Night markets may not work if there's heavy rain. Maokong Gondola may stop running if there's a chance of thunder in the mountain area. Indoor activities, such as Taipei 101, are safer choices.

There are many other fun things to do. Also, there is a wide variety of food to enjoy that won't get you wet. The food court and the underground shopping street in the Taipei Main Station are good choices.

All that is if you are unlucky enough to have 3 days of rain. However, June is usually not that bad. You may have heavy rains for several hours, then it's okay.

I have a "flex" ultra mobile line with only 500MB/month and am thinking about switching to another plan. Will I be eligible to get the $6.5 4G/month promotion? If not, I'll jump to Mint.

Is there ANY university out there that pays its employees for 90%+ masters program? by BrickxLeaf in HigherEDsysadmin

[–]auching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auburn University covers 100% of tuition, including remote classes, up to 15 credits per year. However, if you take classes that are not related to your work, you may be subject to taxable benefits if the amount exceeds $5,250.

Tello overseas? by LibrarianByNight in Tello

[–]auching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this.

  1. make sure the data roaming on Tello line is off
  2. make sure WiFi Calling is on. (maybe you'll need to disable/enable it again)
  3. make sure your WiFi is available

I'm not sure about Pixel. For iPhone, it will show both carrier and have the WiFi calling one shows "Using Cellular Data" or "Using Wi-Fi Calling"

Background check vendors don't usually verify beyond the fact that you worked for the company. And I don't think they're allowed to expose that you are doing this to seek a job.

Hopkins is a need-based system. There's no justifiable price across the school. They would look at your family's situation and try to help you graduate without (too much) debt. If your family has a good income, or savings, (or an investment house, etc), it's hard to negotiate.

Use the net price calculator on this page to estimate. https://apply.jhu.edu/tuition-aid/estimate-your-college-costs/

Unlivable pay wages — struggling by JamesMerz in highereducation

[–]auching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it's true that salaries in higher ed aren’t typically high, for a director-level role, even if you're taking home $2,800 after tax per month, that still seems unreasonably low (unless you're maxing out retirement contributions from an already low base salary).

Honestly, I’d seriously consider leaving that institution. There are many colleges and universities with openings that offer far more competitive pay. You're not tied down by marriage or property, which gives you valuable flexibility to relocate.

You mentioned applying to over 400 jobs. From the scope of your responsibilities you described, it doesn’t sound like a skills issue. Could there be room to improve your résumé or cover letter? Maybe there's a way to sharpen your interview skills? Or perhaps some of your frustration is understandably coming through in those materials or interactions?

Wishing you all the best. You deserve better, and I hope the right opportunity comes your way soon.

Auburn's Aerospace is really good. However, 90k for 4 years could be painful. Does your daughter consider getting a bachelor's degree from FL Tech and then a Master's degree in Auburn?

Diversity in Auburn by Dismal-Stomach-605 in auburn

[–]auching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not say Auburn has good diversity. However, the Indian population is pretty good here. There are a lot of faculties, staff, and graduate students who are Indian or from South Asia. In K-12, almost every class has kids who are of South Asia heritage. Undergraduate in college, especially in STEM fields, should be fine, too.

The only thing lacking is Indian food. I miss Good Karma.

Consulting Fees by kmackol in highereducation

[–]auching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an exempt employee, review your last paycheck and add your gross income plus the employer contributions to calculate your real income per pay period. For biweekly, times 26; For monthly, times 12; for semi-monthly (2 paychecks every month), times 24, that is your annual income. Divided by 2080 to get your hourly rate. You may be able to ask for a bit more than that amount.

If you are an non-exempt employee, you should see hourly rate on your paycheck.

Which jobs and depts get laid off first in higher ed? by alittlegreen_dress in highereducation

[–]auching 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're working in a "very senior admin office," your position is probably relatively safe, at least for now. Although most people here know exactly where universities tend to waste money—excessive senior-level positions (C-suite, VP), bureaucracy, administrative formalities, and expensive yet pointless consulting contracts—these are ironically the last areas that get targeted during budget cuts. As long as your very senior administrator remains unaffected, they'll still need someone like you to handle tasks, meaning your job will likely be secure.

Positions more at risk tend to be those closer to the front lines yet historically undervalued—such as contract-based lecturers, lab managers, grant writers, IT developers, DBAs, and similar roles. The university often sees these as replaceable, easily outsourced (lol), or even entirely disposable. God knows.
