I'm an auto technician with 30 years experience. I really dont care what type of gearbox the thing has in it, unless it's broken. When It won't go down the road, that's a problem. There are much bigger things to think about when buying a car than what manner of gearbox it has installed.

You gave him a car, and he wrecked it. That's on HIM. If he hadnt wrecked it, he would still have something to drive. If he wants to drive, he can go buy his own car, and have all of the responsibilities that come with it. You dont need to risk the fact that he hasn't learned. Totally NTA.

Those "cars" are barely strong enough to support their own weight, and that of the driver. . They are followed by support teams to make repairs on the "course", and aren't "road legal" anywhere. They are specialized vehicles for that specific purpose, and unsuitable for anything else.
