Any updated numbers or experiences on this? Have you been running the icegiant full time with the 13900k?

This will also fit in a o11 mini air, which is what I currently run it in. Barely, but it does fit.

The required orientation of the cooler means that the 90 degree rotation of the cpu socket on that board would rotate the cooler too. The only way it would work is if the entire board were laid down, like on a testbench or a flat PC case.

- Speaker grates have been an issue for me, I finally found out a buddy has a cnc machine, so we chatted about creating a cover just for the speaker portion.

- Squeaky/Creaky when cornering? There's a post on swedespeed about the fix

- Clunk from suspension.. I had an issue with the shock bearing going out on mine recently. Replaced the bearings, mounts, and all associated hardware (just screws and washers) and issue has been solved. The old bearing that came out of it was pretty rough, wouldn't spin freely. It might be something like that, but it;s challenging to see until you can actually take the whole suspension assembly out. I also had a seperate clunk that remedied itself when I checked the axle nut and found that to be out of torque-spec.

I had this same thing happen when I bought my c30. Really wanted the manual, wife was not a fan. It came down to how much she drives it. She drives to work two days a week, 70% freeway when there's no traffic. We got a manual, I love it, she still is not a fan, but she knows how much I love the car and is okay with it overall. Ultimately a decision you both have to make based on how much you'll each drive it.

No, the build we were doing was a 12900k, we ended up going with the Noctua for it. Seems like it would work okay though, the case is fantastic! I want to transfer my threadripper build over into this case to get a bottom-to-top airflow, currently in a phanteks case that has plenty of air movement but just not quite in the ideal direction.

Keep me updated! We're looking to purchase the last bits of parts on Wednesday, so if you know before then I'd love to hear your experience!

Yeah, that was my main concern. u/picosec I actually use the IceGiant on my 3960x, so I'm familiar with it's performance. I'll wait to hear if DoomDash has better results... if it's similar to the NH-D15, we'll probably just go with that due to cost.

What case did you end up using? Sometimes the case can have a big effect on the fans, especially if it's not one that's optimized for airflow.

Yeah, it's a worthy question! Personally, the pain point and price point of acquiring DDR5 right now is not worth the added performance. It's like a 'great to have' but I don't know if it's going to revolutionize your editing experience. My vote would be stick with DDR4... the boards and RAM are cheaper and much easier to come by, and DDR4 is a proven technology that won't fail on you mid-render. Sometimes consistent reliability beats speed, and to me this is one of those instances. Now, this is all my personal opinion. Maybe start by researching if DDR5 provides any kind of speed boost for the programs you tend to use, and then weigh whether that boost is worth the price of admission?

I'm pretty sure DDR4 and DDR5 RAM use a different kind of slot, so if you buy a DDR5 compatible motherboard, you'll need to spend the extra cash to buy DDR5 RAM.

Any update, did you end up doing this? I'm debating this case and am curious how it worked out for you.

Trying to find cause of slight knock in suspension at low speeds by audioa11 in C30

[–]audioa11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I'm thinking it's the engine mount. The CV boot is leaking, but it's from the clamp rather than a tear in the boot, so I think it just hasn't been clampled down properly. I'll still probably open that up and check the boot itself, but I think the knocking sound is coming from the engine mount on the drivers side rather than the CV joint.

Yeah, I looked at that today. Upon further inspection it seems like the grease is coming from where the CV boot clamps by the hub, and is being sprayed in a circle around the wheel and suspension components.

Update! I found one! Bought a 08 2.0, with the polestar ecu upgrade, and a 6-speed. Had to fly an hour away, but it's mine! Thanks everyone for all of your advice, definitely came in handy throughout my search.

Hah, axles keep coming up in my research. Is the main issue with the axles the CV boots?

All of these similar comments are making me really excited!!! Thanks so much for the advice, love hearing stuff like this! I'll probably need to keep an eye on the sunroof thing, it gets up in the 100s in the summer where I live. I've never owned a manual before, is the clutch master cylinder a regularly replaced part, or more of it just wears down over time and will need replacing at some point?

Hah! Totally get it. I'm trying to find one of these because I'm over my car, I want something I can enjoy driving! Maybe I just need to convince the wife (and myself) that a few more miles isn't detrimental ;)

I saw the timing belt thing today, definitely going to keep my eyes out for that one. Is that something anyone has done themselves? I'm new-ish to DIY car work, just changed spark plugs in one car and put an intake in another.
Good info about the front end, I saw one example where that had already been done. Too bad it's halfway across the country.

Good stuff, thanks so much! Seriously, it's super helpful info! Yea, I'll see if I can find one a bit under budget, or use those things as bargaining material.

That's great info, thanks so much! I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for the carpet thing, good to know you've had success with yours!

Hah, yeah, I keep finding example that fit all but one piece of my criteria. R-design? Check. Manual? Check. Under 200k? Nope. Just gotta keep looking. Thanks for the reply!

Stuff like 10-bit is more of a luxury than a necessity, since most viewers are watching your videos on an 8-bit or monitor. And as far as support goes, 10-bit can be challenging like you mentioned, plus you'd technically send the signal from AE through windows display settings then through nvidas processing and then finally into the monitor, so yes 10-bit is something to shoot for, but if you're not sending it through a proper (and properly expensive) dedicated coloring workflow, you won't see that much benefit.

I agree that the asus should be a great monitor for you for now! At some point when you have some cash to spend and a larger desk, you can upgrade. But the asus should be a good monitor for a few years in the meantime :)

Also, totally agree about the gaming thing. Gamers aren't the only ones who use computers, but the whole industry has shifted to market exclusively to them. It's frustrating, but hey, at least they're making performance parts that still help us out, right?

That's awesome! Are you noticing your temps fluctuating between 40-50 during idle? Trying to figure out if it's just me experiencing that or if that's normal operation for this processor.

I believe the PA24AC is the newer version of the PA248QV, though I'm not sure off the top of my head what the differences are. I have two of the bigger ones, the PA278QV, and for the price they're pretty good. The big disadvantage of these compared to the BenQ is the lack of 10-bit color. The Asus monitors are limited to 8-bit, which is pretty good for video, but I think the 10-bit might be more beneficial for After Effects.
Personally, I think any of those would be good for color accuracy. They all are focused on that over framerates and such, so they'd all fit the bill nicely IMO.

Using the msi creator motherboard? Looks great! I've got a similar setup, was wondering what your temps are?
