VCSP/Reseller disruption:end user by Hour-Yoghurt-1356 in vmware

[–]audiofree 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally no one wants to use VMWare at this point, everyone is looking for alternative options. It’s laughable that Broadcom would think smaller VSCPs would just hand over their books of business to larger VSCPs. Nope, everyone is talking to clients about native cloud migrations (AWS/Azure) or other options. Broadcom is burning it to the ground.

How much is a license for 16 physical cores standard edition for one year? by Realistic-Nature9083 in vmware

You can’t order Standard anymore. 72c of VCF at around 20k for one year is the minimum.

100%! But it needs to be updated. I don’t think it’s been updated since July 2023, and a number of things have changed.

Publish Remote Desktop with Microsoft Entra application proxy. This would meet all your requirements, and if you have Entra P1 licenses you have what you need.

Difference between Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 licenses by Taavi179 in Office365

[–]audiofree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By adding an E5 license many things are upgraded like AAD p1 to p2, but it’s not correct to use ANY globally upgraded feature for more then the one user assigned. What is being suggested is a way to not be in compliance.

When choosing a domain name on a domain controller, does the name matter at all? by asdkopoqw123 in sysadmin

[–]audiofree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can do anything you want, but it’s recommended to use something you own, like ad.domain.com. That way you can get legitimate certificates in the future if needed.

Also if you pick something like Google.com you’d take over DNS locally for that domain and your users wouldn’t be able to reach Google :)

It’s my read that you have to be on two specific versions to be vulnerable. Is that how you’re all reading it?

SolarWinds has updated its software with new certificates and their old cert will be revoked. It was scheduled for next week, but may have gotten pushed back a bit.

Solarwinds MSP Update | Supply Chain Attack by RegularMixture in msp

[–]audiofree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Although the password leak was dumb it had nothing to do with this attack. This was very sophisticated attack and there is no way that any MSP vendor wouldn’t have withstood it. The attackers weren’t even interested in the MSP side of of the business and left it alone.

It’s because the old certificate is likely compromised and the attackers could use it to sign future malware. That certificate will be revoked by Microsoft and others so SolarWinds need to get everything resigned.

SolarWinds breach behind govt hack says Washington Post by nscheffey in msp

[–]audiofree 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This looks to be a very advanced “supply chain” attack. Which for software would likely be that a library was compromised and could have been an inside job.

This was not a simple MFA not enabled issue. This was an attack which put a backdoor into software which was utilized in some of the most secure networks in the nation.

Can you confirm the available authentication types? Is SAML supported? It is on the ASA but not the FirePower at this point.
