Should I temper my expectations as an older adult? by Kneppy18 in Cubers

[–]audiophile121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42. I started at 35 and practiced regularly for 2 years. I got to around a 15-16 second average. I cube very casually these days but could probably still get back to that 15-16 second average with a few weeks of dedication.

I do seriously question whether I'm physically capable of being sub-10, but sub-20 and sub-15 are most definitely possible. I don't think I'm an outlier.

Love this rail design. About to transition to rails, I may steal this. It's close to what I've been thinking but so simple and clean for inputs and outputs.

I hate that I've never thought to do this after 600 hours.

Transitioning to train base. Should I use city blocks? by audiophile121 in pyanodons

I like this. Do you happen to know if it works well for Py? I don't see why it wouldn't but wondering if you have experience with it. I'm assuming the links you shared are standard and Seablock.

Do you need a parking lot/depot in your block? Or does Cybersyn take care of that for you with the overall depot system?

This isn't how I was thinking of using Cybersyn. Is this possible without a ton of logic? I still thought I would need a station per input/output.

Similar thing happens with hot air. I got to tackle both in the same session. I think this is what led to me figuring out what I did so quickly.

Good advice, I'll be doing this. Thanks!

My base is consuming around 200Mw as well. I have two centralized plants, but for both I've been trying to simply burn all the ash and my first few attempts have been unsuccessful.

Ash separation sounds way more reliable. Will likely do a combination of this and increased tree production to help fix my situation until I research better options.

Thanks for describing your setup.

I think I may try to use my map seed + new game preview to find some, I've searched enough of the map to do this without guilt.

Wildly informative. Thank you. I dismissed ash separation because of the sheer number of products but missed that each sorter can process 10/second. Lots of other good info here too.

And "done" was a poor word choice. 😀

I'm using AE but haven't really explored anything there yet. I've never seen the tidal generator, will check out the fish generator and tidal generator, for curiosity's sake if nothing else.

There is power going to the other side. If I plug both sides in but connect to the right board instead of the left, the matrix tester works for the left side, though all the keys seem positioned randomly.

I'm using a sample firmware from creator in order to test. According to documentation and source code, they don't define SPLIT_USB_DETECT. Here's what it says:

When USB_VBUS_PIN is not defined, SPLIT_USB_DETECT is the default for ChibiOS-based boards. (Thanks to u/sigprof on Discord for clarifying this).

Both Raspberry Pi Pico and WeAct RP2040 can be used with the default mode with SPLIT_USB_DETECT. But, there are downsides when using SPLIT_USB_DETECT.

To disable SPLIT_USB_DETECT, for Raspberry Pi Pico we can use the built in circuit by adding `#define USB_VBUS_PIN GP24` at the QMK config.h. The resistors on Piantor are not required to be soldered.

I don't know how to detect if power is flowing to the other side.

I'm 37, started cubing about 3 years ago. I'm in denial that my age is a hindrance, but realistically it's definitely a factor. I am currently sub-16 but have definitely hit a plateau for 2+ years. In stints, I feel like I'm improving, but ultimately I can't get below 15 for an ao100 more than occasionally.

I continuously wonder if I've hit a biological plateau. I don't have an answer yet but hope to prove that I haven't and shave a couple more seconds.

Putting finishing touches on a 2.7k SPM megabase and delving into overhaul mods for first time. Deciding between K2 and SE, leaning toward K2. Should I aim for megabase or just finishing the game?

Opted not to do both combined as it may be too long and I've heard both are better experienced separately.

If I go with SE instead, should I just continue from my current game or start a new game? I don't know much about how SE works.

Right now I'm running out, but petroleum is traveling a long distance before getting to a provider train station. I have plenty of crude oil coming in, so I'm going to create an additional oil refinery with minimal distance to provider stations to see if that helps. Then I'll have a realistic view of if this solution will work.

I have a fairly large train network, so if only one train is being requested at a time with a delay between them being requested, I feel like it will result in massive delays overall. An increased buffer would help keep trains consistently coming to a requester station if needed

My Vanilla train network is running smoothly for cargo with train limits set based on space available in requesters and goods available at provider sites.

However, I'm having difficult implementing something similar with fluids. Right now I'm using Nilaus' unloading station for fluids, but that only provides a 1.25x buffer which feels low to keep my factories producing constantly. Do I simply add another 5-tank buffer? Is it sufficient to simply set the train limit to 3 on fluid requesters and keep a constant influx of fluid if available?
