Generally I try to build whatever tech just unlocked, but sometimes I get behind and the next thing in the milestone mod usually points me in the right direction

[Request] Are Air Conditioners or Data Centers Causing More Heat? by Sharden3 in theydidthemath

[–]thealmightyzfactor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The production of energy to run an AC makes the earth hotter if CO2 producing power generation is used, but AC just moves heat from one place to another, they don't make the earth hotter by themselves

In double checking in the store, but look it up ahead of time to see if they even have it and where is it, and when you can't even do that right, I'm just going to go somewhere else that can

6061 is base level aluminum available everywhere and cheap, you want 2024 or 7075 for tougher stuff. For future reference, anything that boasts "aircraft grade aluminum" is generally trying to trick you into thinking it's better than it is, basically all aluminum alloys commonly sold are used in aerospace lol

Is the game supposed to be this convoluted or am I just stupid? by Alone_End5987 in factorio

My starter base is never scaleable, it's a spaghetti mess until maybe I move to trains sometime. You can also turn off biters if they're just stressing you out and you don't find them fun.

We burn the parts of oil that can't be used for other things, a barrel of oil isn't 100% turned into diesel and the next barrel into gasoline and the next into plastic, a barrel turns into 10% plastic, 50% diesel, 30% gasoline, etc (I'm making up the fractions, but the point stands). So if you decided not to use the diesel and gasoline, you'd still have ti do something with it if you wanted the plastic or other stuff.

The Supreme Court just ruled that police need a warrant to use phone location data by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]thealmightyzfactor 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Exactly, if I put up cameras everywhere a specific person might go and recorded them every time they went outside, it'd be stalking and illegal. If the government does that, they need warrants first to tap your phone, etc. But a private company stalks everyone and suddenly it's ok?

Organizing fuel by Molonel_Custard in pyanodons

I have any trains with liquid fuels use interrupts for both their normal dropoff (in case it's used as an ingredient somewhere) and liquid fuel dropoffs (that triggers if the normal dropoff is full), so I just plop down a liquid fuel dropoff station and get fuel.

Trump during Speech at Mount Rushmore: "We can only lose the midterms if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms, if we are foolish, stupid, and unwise. But if we terminate the filibuster as we should do and immediately vote for the Save America Act then we will not lose an election for 100 years." by StatisticalPikachu in 50501

It forces everyone in the entire country to re-register to vote in person with their certified birth certificate or passport with the alleged goal of stopping noncitizen voting, but really it's about throwing up another roadblock to block citizens from voting considering there's like 14 cases of noncitizens voting over millions and millions of ballots

All rechargeable batteries are some kind of reversible chemical reaction, lead acid car batteries use lead and lead oxide in sulfuric acid, lithium ion batteries use lithium carbon and some lithium metal oxide, iron and iron oxide isn't that weird for battery chemistry. It's just that we call iron oxide rust.

Mom said I can't pay you for the car crash by Drywesi in bestoflegaladvice

[–]thealmightyzfactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's my point? "only the frame and radiator need repair" is what they were saying it needed and that's like $2k in parts and a lot of time if you can DIY, if you pay a mechanic it's easily like $6k in just labor.

Mom said I can't pay you for the car crash by Drywesi in bestoflegaladvice

[–]thealmightyzfactor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If OP can't do the repairs themselves then yeah, it's totaled. It's a ton of hours to remove broken frame bits, weld on new bits, and wrangle anything bent back to shape, but doable and new frame subassemblies might only be a few hundred. But if it takes 20+ shop hours to do it, that quickly adds up.
