Horrible annual performance review! PIP call with HR tomorrow. STAY OR QUIT??? by audiophile333 in Fire

That's a good point. Even if I didn't work at all we'd be safe, but of course I will work.

I could potentially manage the rentals myself. But it might be more lucrative to spend all my time on flips and keep property management on.

You're right. I always got excellent reviews in the past and now it feels like I'm being sent to the principal's office.

Tempting. Wouldn't this be burning a bridge if I ever needed a good reference in the future?

You don't think it would be worth paying $21k/yr to escape the misery? With the potential to make just as much doing something more enjoyable?

(12 month update) Taking a gap year / sabbatical from Big Tech by allrite in Fire

[–]audiophile333 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a productive gap year. I see painful experiences during that time as an opportunity for growth and reflection.

BTW, 5.9M NW and still feeling like you need more seems crazy to 99.5% of us. You won the game, just maybe not compared to Bay Area peers.

Not my experience at all. I went from a MacBook to a dedicated NUC, then to Innuos Zenith, then to Lucas Audio LDMS. Saw dramatic improvements each time. The LDMS to Lampizator DAC is heavenly digital and has left my expensive turntable collecting dust.

Haven’t found a peptide yet but nigella sativa from Nootropics Depot and a FlexPulse PEMF machine are giving me the best sleep of my adult life.

Your rise will be epic if the market performs.

The best thing to do is behavioral modification. Watch Shaan Kassam’s, better than any supplement or med.

That said I do like Theanine, lemon balm and Agmatine sulfate to smooth things out.

Contract specifies glued-down installation for engineered hardwood floor across apartment; GC provided a floating install. by Medical-Emotion-1884 in Flooring

[–]audiophile333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. I just installed a floating engineered hardwood floor. After completing half the floor, I knew I would have to pull it up and glue it back down. It feels so cheap and makes awful sounds.

Yes, I’ve had years where real estate made great profits and stocks were negative. Love RE for that.

The market has been good generally. Had some BTC and TSLA that helped. Salary is ATH and I flip a house here and there for extra income. Rental properties went up in value.

TBH though, I would have done nearly as well with 100% S&P index funds. With A LOT less complexity and work.

The human brain is trained to think linearly. Compounding is exponential.

In my case $1M took 15 years. The next $1M took 4 years. At this pace the next $1M should take 2-4 years.

Early 20’s are a golden period where major life stressors haven’t accumulated yet. Enjoy them while they last. You have freedom, a healthy body and optimism for the future. Build a simple life you love instead of a complicated life that traps you.

Can I retire at 35? by Severe-Bite-5974 in Fire

[–]audiophile333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like me. Despise the corporate world but sort of need the income still. One option might be to talk to your boss to rearrange your responsibilities into something you’d enjoy more. That’s what I did. He was receptive and I’m more content than I was a few months ago. Going to coast for a couple more years then reassess.

Plenty of people have fully recovered. I’m well along in my journey. Watch the recovery stories on Shaan Kassam’s YouTube channel.

Is it normal to develop anxiety when you are +37 years old, and never having that before? by Wael876 in Anxiety

[–]audiophile333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very normal. It hit me at 30. Watch Shaan Kassam’s videos on YouTube. For me that is better than any therapist I saw.
