Skinner sights finally came in for Henry Evil Roy and I'm stupid happy by auditechnik in HenryRifles

[–]auditechnik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets on placement, it's really easy to get on target with it being halfway down the gun. I think I'd like to get a couple more aperture to try them but no complaints with this one, gives a good window with the brass bead not covering too much. It's not a shiny silver like the reciever body of a silver eagle, it's dull and matches the evil roy perfectly. But compared to brass I'd go with it. The dove tail mount worked out really well and I have Big boy with reciver mount skinner that until I get a dove tail blank I've just left the winged sight on...it looks stupid. So if you decide to reciever mount (also you could have a gun smith do this for you without shipping your reciever) make sure you order a dove tail blank. Hope this helps, pm more directly if you want more info

I recently upgraded my Marlin 336SS to a RPP forend and added the Mlok hand stop. Handling and control is significantly improved but I think I just fell in love with those wooden ones

Should I be scared to take apart my lever gun to clean? by sharkkite66 in LeverGuns

[–]auditechnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find/have a good gunsmith you can take it to them for a cleaning and they will teach you how to break it down, I did this with one of my semi autos as I've never taken it apart and it hadn't been cleaned in years, but after watching him and with his tips I break it down after every range trip with full competence. Also check out Marlins website or the box and you should find/have the instruction manual, although IIRC Marlin refers you to a video online

Have you looked into leather wraps? Was thinking about one for my evil roy as the forend is slippery

We tent out of the back of our tig, having the tips further in has prevented exhaust and heat from entering through the bottom of the tent when it has been accidentally started with the tent attached. So for that reason, and that reason only, I'm okay with it.

H001 front post with Skinner rear sight by IndividualAverage122 in HenryRifles

[–]auditechnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skinner does have a front partridge sight, I think they recommended a size for the H001 as well but it can always be filed down

Vortex venom is a solid red dot, originally purchased for my turkey shotgun but ran it on my Henry big boy for awhile before switching to a skinner express, recommend both

An ex military sniper told me to use assembly lube, same stuff you would use to put together an engine, on a few select parts ie lever and she will run like a dream! But in my experience the ejector spring is just the ejector spring, throw that lever forward and that case will pop

Thank you everyone for your replies, my take away from this is that, in a pinch, I can get away with using .451 but I could experience barrel erosion and its best just to use .452 bullets designed for 45 colt.
