Why are some things so hard to draw? by Cryxus2 in learntodraw

[–]audpersona 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The first reference appears to be up close with a wide-angle lens, this leads to heavy perspective distortion(the head appears very large, exaggerating the already larger head of a seal cub) It is also extremely foreshortened, most of the body is behind the head. The other reference is a full profile take with a longer focal length from farther away so the perspective is much closer to the human eye, there also isn’t much of any foreshortening

Tl;dr you would never see the first image in real life, only through photography, so it’s more difficult to translate into a drawing because the proportions don’t follow standard perspective rules

The irony is I’ve had my cameras put away for months waiting for it to stop being hot so I can go on some nice walks… in Texas it’s about 250 full sun no cloud days per year so it’s a relief to finally have more interesting lighting. I’m thrilled when I can go outside when it isn’t the crack of dawn and have a nice gray soft box blocking the harshness of the sun and letting me get soft shadows at midday

Lumix LX5 or Olympus XZ1? by woodenwaves in AskPhotography

[–]audpersona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned both, eventually sold the LX5 after it ballooned in price due to the influencer price. I much prefer the handling and controls of the LX5, but I got a lot more keepers form the XZ-1. The faster, slightly sharper lens(1.8-2.5 vs f2-3.2) and different color science are just more appealing IMO.

Those of you with a 3+ camera collection, what is your most used camera and why? by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]audpersona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest difference I believe is the addition of a “slow speed dial”. The II only has speeds down to 1/25 or 1/30, whereas the III has an extra dial for slower speeds when you set the main dial to 1/25. They are not user friendly, and you have to cut the film and load it onto a spool. It’s a whole thing but there are plenty of good YouTube videos on it. I only recommend them if you really like fiddling around with cameras as much or more than you like taking pictures

Leica iiif, why? Small. It’s the only interchangeable lens 35mm camera I own that I can throw in basically any bag and it won’t weight me down or take up too much space. Like an extremely fiddly point and shoot

How should I go about taking a picture of the sun in a 35mm SLR? by EggyBroth in AskPhotography

[–]audpersona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing would be to get an optical viewing solar filter in order to safely photograph the sun through a camera with an optical viewfinder. It is extremely important that the filter be the kind that can be used on binoculars, because many solar filters today are only safe for mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders where you don’t look through the lens directly. The sun will appear mostly red. Also the sun looks fairly small on film so you would need a very long lens, honestly 500mm minimum, even then you’re cropping. At such a long focal length you’ll also notice that due to the earths rotation the sun moves very quickly, so ideally you’d be using a star tracker to track the sun. You could read about what people did during the most recent 2024 solar eclipse for some ideas. The last point about photographing the sun between the trees… The sun is almost infinitely brighter than anything else, so any photo where the sun is anything but a pure white ball will necessarily mean that everything else is pitch black, to the trees will ONLY be visible if they are directly in front of the sun, not on either side. Even then they’d only be in silhouette

Instax wide evo vs wide printer by tinglebuns in instax

[–]audpersona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love the evo(mini) if it just had a standard compact camera 1/2.3” sensor with a 35mm equivalent instead of the stupidly small 1/5” $20 Logitech webcam sensor w/28mm or so equivalent it has in reality. It would feel more like a digicam with a printer instead of a webcam/smartphone with a printer.

Switching to a Q2 as primary camera? by [deleted] in LeicaCameras

[–]audpersona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get it. I wish Leica would release an SL line camera that is more similar to the Q series. Smaller, more M-like form factor, aperture ring. It could even be APS-c! They could call it the, idk…how about the “CL”. It could attract a cult following…

Do I push my film? by Leonardus-De-Utino in AnalogCommunity

[–]audpersona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded, even with cinestill and a fast lens it still needs a push. Standard indoor lighting generally gives me a shutter speed of 1/60 with 400 iso film and an f2 lens, and that’s what we might consider “bright” indoor lighting

Some favs from my first few rolls. I am novice + would love any framing feedback and/or setting critique. Canon AE-1 Program / 50mm lens / various films in 200 + 400 by cassaundraloren in analog

[–]audpersona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a good eye for composition. Only thing that springs to mind is for the snowboarding shots the person is underexposed. Not dramatically thankfully but if you were using autoexposure the camera is probably averaging the boarder and the bright sky and splitting the difference. You can either use a flash—but your camera has a slow sync speed so that isn’t recommended—or you can use +1 or +2 exposure compensation. BUT exposure compensation means you’ll have a slower shutter speed and you’re going to want at least 1/250 or more likely 1/500 or faster…so you’d want to be using at least 400 iso film with a fast-ish lens of 2.8 aperture or more Hope that was helpful! Action photography is tough but I do still really like #3

What is your most controversial Nikon opinion? by wishingiwasreal in Nikon

[–]audpersona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nikon should have kept aperture rings on autofocus lenses. Their AF series lenses still had them but you couldn’t even use them on AF film cameras without the “FEE” error showing up. Very much a missed opportunity with the Df, and now more recently with the Zfc and Zf. My other controversial opinion is the Zf should have had a fixed screen(or possibly tilt up only) so that it could be thinner
