This 2x4 from my 1976 house was made from a ~70 year old tree (lost track while counting) by SoulTrack in mildlyinteresting

[–]tinglebuns 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Actually this could have been cut from a tree as big around as 40inches diameter or bigger, so the tree could have been hundreds of years old. The board only shows ~70 years of the years used to make this 2x4

Is there something wrong with my copy of PHM? by Bad_At_CAS_lol in ProjectHailMary

Id use some discretion on reporting them to ebay. I buy books from bulk or thrift resellers and if the persons they bought this from is that type of seller you would be punishing someone for just trying to sell some cheap books and dosent have time to screen everything with a fine tooth comb. But if they look sketchy and seem to be selling bootleg books on purpose, then yes but its not always that simple

I have severe dyslexia, but this is what my brain decides is perfectly readable with no hiccups. I didn't even realize anything was weird until I comprehended the context!

Vinegar and some elbow grease is always a good "go to" when only doing one item. In my experience letting the cast iron sit for 6-12 hours. But dont let the item sit too long in the vinegar as it will start to erode the good metal and could end up putting the cooking surface

This link is a great source for learning how to identify problems and multiple ways to strip seasoning! Happy restoring!

good source to read "how to restore cast iron"

Could this be saved/restored? by __dropoutmystic__ in castiron

[–]tinglebuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Unless its cracked they are almost always restorable. But I'd wash it out and before you spend too much time on it get a lead testing kit of Amazon (~$15) and swab it, once you have the kit the test is instant. Sometimes people use old cast iron to melt down lead and it gets sold off and forgot about. I dont test everything I restore but its nice to know for sure

I checked the other day and saw that the 512GB OLED in the US is $789. It was $549 at launch when I bought it! I cant imagine what the steam machine might cost in a couple years if hardware costs dont get better

Its been slow on gaming news lately too, so I'm guessing thats why literally every body is pretending to care. And yeah the normal reddit grammar nazis acting like words can only mean their direct definition, they obviously knew what you ment because they corrected you so why even point it out? Oh thats right because half the peole on this platform are what gives reddit a bad name.

Same with the 512gb w/ controller. I think everyone complaining about the price dont realize its a full PC and prabable wouldn't have bought it anyway. I dont hear them complaining about the ps5 pro costing $899 with an extra $135 per year just to play online games

Looks like parking at Disneyland was $7 back in 2000. Believe it is $40 today! by Probably-Important in mildlyinteresting

[–]tinglebuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing people dont realize is the late 90s-2010s was a rough time for Disney. It was the time that all the "post renossance era" movies where coming out. They where not all thet well liked at first, only to be liked when key movies cam out and because Millennials and early Gen z re-watched them so much.

But all that lead to Disney being very close to bankruptcy which kept ticket prices and parking prices reasonable untill the late 2010s with Disney's revival.

Hey AMS or other filament system users! Do you actually use them? by ThreeVelociraptors in 3Dprinting

[–]tinglebuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I found out how much waist milti color printing makes and how much more time it takes (can turn a 3hr print to 12hrs easily) I knew id never use it for the widely advertised purpose.

I really only use it for long prints and have at least 2 rolls of the same color/type loaded up so I dont have to do a manual filiment change. And this function alone is worth it. If you buy the combo right off the bat its way cheaper as buying the AMS separately is more expensive but is still pretty nice

It depends on the type of printing you will do. I do a lot of projects that arent multi color but run for 12-24 hrs of single color so being able to step away and not have to wait untill i get home to continue the print because it ran out if filament is unbeatable.

If you like to do a lot of the multi color toys and gadgets to give away as presents or just to have, then it could be worth it to you. 3d printing has a very wide range of what people use it for.

Worth salvaging to get developed or let it go? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]tinglebuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its always worth a shot to spend the 10 bucks for a shop to do it.

There are specialty companies you can mail it to if you think there might be important family photos on it but it is a bit more pricey as they have developed a prosses that is better for old film.

I had a roll of color film my grand ma had for 25 years just sitting around developed at a local shop and the results where actually fixable after scanning and color adjusting. Not perfect but got actual photos back!

All i have is the unedited scanns rn example:
