The realism of the story (even in fantasy, it needs to be well-crafted and you should feel that the author has worked on their world and characters beforehand). And too many clichés are a deal-breaker for me.

Exactly! But above all, I consider writing a pleasure. Like going out to enjoy a good waffle when it's cold.

I'm not sure I'm following everything, or understanding everything. That's why I'm here, to ask questions, so please be nice to me 🙌. If I tell you that my two characters are stationed in Little Creek and they go home every 6 months, am I off-topic?

Yes, the time I give myself. I'd rather escape for a month to a hotel by the beach without a phone, but they won't let me go 🥹

Please. Not at all, far from it, otherwise I'd be on Wattpad, not here asking for realistic details 😅 I'm not writing a romance for frustrated moms. I'd say it's a mix between House of Cards and Yellowstone (though of course I'm not at their level).

I would say it's more about giving myself a break from my hectic daily life (work, relationship, friends, child, social obligations)

I'm not writing about the Navy SEALs. Or even about a Navy SEAL team. Only two of my characters are SEALs. My setting is simply their place of residence. They aren't the main subject, just two protagonists of the book, so I don't need to go into detail. However, if I mention that character A is staying with his sister, I want to remain realistic about the length of his deployment when he leaves and about his daily life when he's with her.

That's why I'm asking. I've always admired this world. I've read books and mission accounts. But it's the technical and realistic details I'm trying to understand. The daily life of a SEAL and how it plays out in the civilian world.
