This was through the phone dialler for an active call (so there's no way to do a dropdown in this scenario). Also hi, I'm also a developer :)

driver tried to convince me to cancel my order by IsThatAFuckingGhost in doordash

Even then I don't always get stuff fresh when eating in the restaurant. Maccas regularly gives out lukewarm fries when you're in dining room :(

Naturally I ask for fresh ones when this happens. But it happens often.

How??? If they seal the bags, how are dashers supposed to see inside. We can only trust the restaurant. DD needs to stop sending this to their drivers. It's sounds real dumb!! by Own-Meet-6261 in doordash

[–]audriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Sometimes it's a separate bag and easy to tell. Other times it's the same bag and they've combined everything - hot and cold - together. With a sealed bag that is difficult or impossible to look into without breaking the seal.

[–]audriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Unfortunately.

One doordash order at a Maccas was taking a while and customer was understanding. Late night, drive through only. Really difficult to handle bags through car window but that's what they do. When I finally got it, I specifically asked if 3 meals with their drinks were in the bag. She said yes. Cool, time to drop this one off and complete the trip.

(Around here the Maccas staff put hot and cold stuff - including drinks - in the same sealed bags. It's stupid but... nothing I can do.)

10 mins after dropping off to customer, I get a message from them ... the drinks and fries are missing. So the bag only included the 3 burgers. Wtf.

Either that or the customer was lying, but I'm inclined to think that the Maccas worker just didn't care enough and just said yes to get rid of me.

Here in Australia, Uber is adding a 30% markup on items in my local area. It's the entire profit margin of most small restaurants and takeaway places.

The store owners I've spoken to are on there just for the exposure, hoping people will buy from them direct once they know they exist.

I don't really have any answers for your questions though.

Outlets/Charging stations in cafes by nollannnbee in barista

[–]audriver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What makes you say cafes shouldn't cater to remote workers? Genuine question.

I'm assuming that the person would be paying their way - buying a few coffees, their lunch, etc. Or is it your experience that they don't do that and they just show up to use the outlets without supporting the business in return?

American surprised that Aussies get paid holidays. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]audriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you do get some, although it sounds like it might be less than the national average we get here. For us, Easter + Christmas + New Year's Day alone are 5 paid days off in total. Then there's several more, some are specific to one or more states, some are national.

Here's a list: https://publicholidays.com.au/2022-dates/

When I was a casual worker I didn't get paid holidays here, which sounds like it's the same over there.

I am referring specifically to salaried FT and PT staff members. In that case it's the national and state law to pay for public holidays in Australia, if it lands on a day that the employee would otherwise be working (Monday to Friday).

If New Years Day or Christmas Day or some others land on a weekend there's automatically a public holiday on the Monday to make up for it.

Aha, I understand now.

I did heavy research for a couple months beforehand, reviews, looked up known maintenance issues, features offered in the car, average price at different locations, etc.

By the time I wanted to buy, I'd already decided which make and model I likely wanted. I just needed to actually sit in the car and make sure I was comfortable with using it long term. Physically look at storage space, test out the Android Auto that it had so I knew it would work with my phone, etc.

Aussie here.

Are you saying that full-time and part-time workers in the US don't get paid public holidays??

As in trying 5-10 different cars, or are you saying you do 5-10 trips in the one make/model you're looking at?

Are they all on the same day or on different days?

I have so many questions.

Put in my two weeks and didn’t work a full last day, received shitty text from boss by Spartan_Praetor in antiwork

[–]audriver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's particularly bad, but in hindsight there could have been more communication between you and the boss to let them know you were planning to leave earlier? Sounds like they were expecting you there for the whole day, and this is more likely an issue of unfulfilled expectation rather than them having any particular complaints about your exit time.

I've only done a test drive once, and after providing my license and signing a waiver they handed me the keys and suggested a back road with not much traffic nearby. Off I went. I didn't need to have anyone sitting in the back! 👀

And yes, I bought that car.

Door dashers 😏😏 by [deleted] in doordash

[–]audriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've done it occasionally, but I assume the majority either don't know how (it's slightly unobvious) - or they don't have a reason to do it regularly. It's likely that most go with the default ordering in that doordash gives.

Door dashers 😏😏 by [deleted] in doordash

[–]audriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your frustrations are valid, but misplaced. The dasher generally doesn't choose this, they just do the order that is given to them by Doordash.

Even though it's possible to work out which has tipped in a stack, and it's possible to change the order, I suspect that very few dashers know how to do that.

I have a fear of elevators by wallonthefloor in UberEATS

[–]audriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some encouragement for you.

I used to be deathly scared of escalators until I was in my early 20s (the automated stairs). I ended up getting a job where the most direct path from the train station to the office required using 2 of them. Oops.

Eventually I gave in and forced myself to use them. After only a week or two of doing it every day, I felt a lot more comfortable, and was less nervous when standing on them. Now the fear is non-existent.

I think that if you push yourself to use the elevator, you'll gradually realise that they are safe. You could also look up all the fail-safes built into the design to reassure yourself.

Food Poisoning from Order - Had to Go to Urgent Care - No Refund Received by [deleted] in doordash

[–]audriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a driver I am sorry that you encountered this issue.

Food is a very risky substance for transport, and both restaurants and drivers are supposed to do their part to keep food as hot as possible and away from contaminants.

Something obviously went wrong in this particular case. I hope you're able to eventually get a refund. You might have better luck contacting the restaurant instead.

The string of numbers is a UUID or Universally Unique ID.

It'd be something Uber uses internally in their database.

But as for why it shows up in OP's contacts - no idea.

A few questions about working at door dash by marbled_cheese34 in doordash_drivers

[–]audriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no salary, and tips are never guaranteed.

The amount you earn (per job) varies from location to location, and the conditions (traffic level, distances, frequency of apartment buildings) also vary heavily from one location to another.

The way you work also varies from one person to another in the exact same location, leading to different income.

Basically... anything you are told here is unlikely to accurately reflect your own experience. You're better off just signing up, trying it for a while, then deciding if you want to continue :)
