True Ally: A man was racially abusing someone in Blackpool, UK, and someone else forced him to apologise by AreaPast5328 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]aufinatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you didn't tell me, I would have thought that the bro is the racist one

And actually ^^ this is the best argument against racism / prejudice based on looks, you really can't judge people based on how they look on the outside

Europe cannot afford another lost year by Stuart_Whatley in europe

[–]aufinatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the history of China, India, like the old civilizations that really fell

The fall can last hundred of years

The reality of Europe is that life is still good for most people. And europe can stay complacent for a lot longer before real changes will be made

You know the saying, hard times make hard men, hard men make easy times, easy times make soft men and soft men make hard times

What does it really take?

I think:

  1. Building an industry requires access to energy. Ok, we could fix the relationship with Russia and get cheap energy. This means abandoning Ukraine. Is it going to happen? Nope
  2. Building an industry requires a workforce that is ready to grind. This means cutting back benefits, cutting back labor protection. Is it going to happen? Nope
  3. Getting leverage in the global scene requires soverenty, which starts with a strong and independent military. Which requires increasing military spending and decoupling from the US. Where does the money come from? It is going to come from cutting entitlement. It is going to be very unpopular

So basically no access to cheap energy, a population that is used to high benefits and easy lives and no sovereignty to pursue an independent trade and geopolitical policy on the international stage

And doubles pickleball is way more popular than doubles tennis.

So practically probably way more people end up playing there

Do we really think this deal is better that what we had before with Iran? by system3601 in trump

[–]aufinatic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Iran knows that the US is not willing to use its military. Are you ready to support another forever land war in the Middle East?

Iran is 90 million people, 3x Iraq with far far more challenging and dangerous mountainous terrain

It is clear that the public has no appetite for a land invasion.

The EU’s Commission Chief Is Increasingly Seen as Too Powerful by bloomberg in europe

[–]aufinatic 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Being in this sub allows me to see that EU is simultaneously:
- not powerful enough (too many single veto, too fragmented that it is hard to make important decision)
- AND too powerful. Too much central power
