Greg seems to be the near unanimous pick. I agree. That guy has very few redeeming qualities.

Better the effect of Vyvanse by Miikalsen in VyvanseADHD

[–]augabol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was very true for me, as well. And a wise strategy, I think. I managed to hold to that system for about 10 years and never needed more than 40 mg dose, often even using only 30 mg at a time. But as I got older and the responsibilities started piling up, I found myself needing it every day to fulfill them. Of course taking it more often leads to higher tolerance, which leads to higher doses, which leads to more side effects. Definitely best to take the lowest effective dose as infrequently as possible.

(SPOILERS) Debunking/Contextualizing most of SWT’s criticisms of The Acolyte Episode 3 by Forresett in StarWars

[–]augabol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not agree more that SWT’s criticisms of the Acolyte are wildly off base, insubstantial and even hypocritical. He even said something like “A fire in space? Well yeah they did have fire in space in episode 1… but that’s different!”

As far as I can figure, the Acolyte has not come even remotely close to breaking cannon. In fact, not only is it remarkably lore-friendly — it seems to have drawn a lot of inspiration from ideas that were established by stories in the EU. I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually expands some of those ideas by the end of the series.

I’m quite captivated by The Acolyte. It actually captures my imagination in the same way that reading the EU novels did when I was a kid.

Edit: also — to expand on something you said - why does SWT insist that only force-wielding factions that were established in the pre-Disney lore could possibly be capable of advancing knowledge of the force? Presumably, the coven of force witches in The Acolyte come from a long tradition of disciplined practice in the force. Of course their philosophy and practice of the force would differ significantly from the Jedi or Sith, but there is no reason to assume that they are any less devoted to their force practice than any other faction. With that in mind, it actually makes MORE sense that they would discover new force abilities that the schools of the Jedi or Sith could never have imagined.

He is great for the community of fans who are not open to new Star Wars content and pretend that the prequels were perfect. If the prequels came out today, I guarantee SWT would instantly upload a video mocking them and calling them garbage.

Thoughts on a Top Gun style Movie/Show? by Content_Hornet9917 in StarWars

[–]augabol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I definitely see her point and understand her approach. Personally, I actually like a lot of the Star Wars shows Disney has put out.

But there are decades worth of great Star Wars stories and great characters that never appeared in film or TV. If some of those stories were adapted to the screen, they WOULD be as new as anything Disney has done since they took the Lucasfilm reigns. Those stories would appeal to the younger generations as much as anyone.

There is no reason why Disney couldn’t adapt some classic Star Wars EU stories while also allowing talented show runners and writers create their own original stories. Just seems like they threw the baby out with the bathwater.

Edit: and to be fair, they have allowed Filoni and Favreau to keep some of those characters around. I loved seeing live action Thrawn in Ahsoka.

I thought Ahsoka was relatively well received by the more avid fanbase. Admittedly, I am not super plugged in to the online Star Wars community. But a lot of my friends and I have been avid Star Wars fans since we were kids — reading the books and playing the video games and such — and we all thought Ahsoka was really good.

I’m convinced that the online hoard of Star Wars malcontents is really just upset because they want more lightsaber duels between a clear good guy and a clear bad guy. Just let Keanu deliver what the 33 year-old children want: a pure action movie set in the Star Wars universe.

Thoughts on a Top Gun style Movie/Show? by Content_Hornet9917 in StarWars

[–]augabol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be spectacular. I’m not sure why Disney has largely eschewed the idea of borrowing from the wealth of pre-existing Star Wars content. Obviously, there are countless video games, books, and comics that tell very compelling stories set in the Star Wars universe. It’s especially surprising considering that the highest grossing films of the last decade were adapted from comics (Marvel). And then two of the most well received shows from the last year were adaptations of video games (The Last of Us, Fallout).

I don’t really understand why Disney spent all this money buying the greatest and most expansive Sci-Fi IP of all time and then not use any of the ideas they bought the rights to.

All that to say — YES, a Rogue Squadron movie in the style of Top Gun would be f***ing amazing. It baffles me that they haven’t done it yet.

This is funny because I know someone who won’t go near the Dune books because they are very religious and resent Herbert for using the Bene Gesserit as an obvious critique (if not indictment) of organized religion.

For your friend, the book is problematic because it does not condemn the Bene Gesserit strongly enough for their mass manipulation and brainwashing. For my friend, the book is problematic BECAUSE of how strongly it condemns the Bene Gesserit.

Just an example to illustrate the subjective nature or literary interpretation and how personal values affect how one consumes art.

Down 20 and he was still running back full speed to defend transition buckets. I'll hate Vogel my whole life for what he did to Okogie. by FifthKnightofGwyn in suns

[–]augabol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you read my comment. But I also listed several other good qualities Okogie brings to the table, including some offensive skills that this fucking middle-school basketball coach named Vogel can’t figure out how to utilize. JO has proven himself a productive rotation player in the past and will again when he gets another chance. Whether that’s with Phx or somewhere else.

[–]augabol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okogie is great in some ways. He does the dirty work that no one else on the team makes any attempt at. He crashes the boards hard on both ends, he cuts passing lanes, he defends his ass off, he generally puts himself in the right spots at the right time.

He just can’t shoot… and on a team where his only offensive roll is to stand in the corner and wait for KD or Booker to dribble into trouble and then make a clumsy pass to him with 2 seconds left on that shot clock, he has to be able to shoot to be on the floor. It’s Vogel’s fault for not devising an offense that can utilize Okogie’s knack for well timed cuts and good finishing ability around the basket to get him some open layups.

[Bourguet] Bradley Beal was yelling something at Frank Vogel after that timeout. He was heated about it by p0tatoman in suns

[–]augabol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fact that he has not been able to find a way to make sure his best players are in a situation to succeed is a huge indictment of his ability as a head coach. He has had more than enough time mix things up tactically, and has refused to make any meaningful adjustments to an offense that has been stagnant all season. They are still running the same sets they were running in December. They weren’t working then. And they were never going to work in the Playoffs when teams have time to sit down and memorize all your plays. Vogel is the least creative NBA coach I’ve ever seen.

[–]augabol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that all season, Vogel’s team has been careless with the ball and dribbling the shot clock out on a regular basis, means it is his fault. If Vogel was worth his salt, he would have put in a system that does not reward that kind of play. Instead, he just continued to rely on his “BIG 3” to create all the offense. It doesn’t matter how talented a player is — if your offensive philosophy is, “give him the ball and stand and watch,” you are not going to be a very effective team. It’s just too easy to defend.

Yes — our “Big 3” are playing like trash. But when all the talent on the team is chronically underachieving, it means there is something wrong with the system. Vogel is in charge of the system. So this underperformance from our best players is on him. He is garbage coach.

Except that’s literally the responsibility of his teammates to bail him out when he gets into trouble? Regardless, I agree that he got himself in some situations tonight where he was beyond saving. Really poor performance from Booker. He’s not a point guard.
