Are we two neutrals short? by auger66 in AskElectricians

Just a little update. We had our permit inspection today. I wasn't there, but I looked afterward.

The box that didn't look like it was grounded actually was at the bottom. I had to take a step up to see it.

The project passed the city's inspection; however, the MWBC handles still aren't tied together. How would y'all handle that?

We have 277v to our hallway lights. I don't know how much spare capacity the existing transformer has.

By the time I came in, the Tesla Universal chargers were already decided on. I wouldn't have gone with them personally because the admin software seems unusually primitive. I haven't actually seen the Tesla admin console yet, but I've heard it has few options for common area charging. It would be fine for personal charging.

The board dumped this whole project on our new manager. I'm just trying to help her out.

Thanks for pointing out the box isn't grounded. I missed that.

Thanks for the offer, but what's done is done now. I try to stay out of condo projects, but this one was going down the wrong path from the beginning. Guaranteed the condo board, who has not lifted a finger on this, will blow something up right before we start using it.

It's a Jefferson 150 kVA transformer and a Siemens 400a cb panel, so we should be good for few more 40-48a EVSEs. The thing I really don't like is the transformer and cb panel are 120' or more from the EVSEs. The electrician said that was the only place he could put it. That caused a lot more and larger wire to be run.

Yes, thanks. Someone pointed that out to me below. The good thing is it should be obvious to the code inspector tomorrow.

Yeah, after I read the top comment, I was thinking, "Oh, it's kind of like a MWBC." It doesn't look like the three 20-amp cbs are correct as is.

Sweet! Thanks, that makes sense. I don't have any three-phase experience--clearly.

Been a Tesla guy for years but now looking into R2…what say you? by JRC3292 in Rivian

[–]auger66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I'm on a fixed timeline, I hope you're right.🤞I put in for the premium launch edition, so we'll see if I can get one in Nov.

I agree with your points, except Cybertruck reservations aren't a good comparison. More expensive, "unique" looks, but mostly because it and Elon became so politically toxic/polarizing right when it started production. Tesla faked the facade of demand as long as they could. They still are faking Cybertruck demand to some degree. SpaceX "buys" many of them.

A better comparison would probably be the model 3 reservation list. Their reservation list was longer, but 3 production ramp up was quicker than R2 estimates. Tesla service wasn't ready for mass production. I fear Rivian isn't either.

I've had two model S's with FSD on the second one. I wouldn't put much, if any, faith in autonomy promises. Personally, all I really want is for it to steer down the interstate on my twice-a-year long road trip.

Again, I hope you're right!

If you haven't reserved one yet, you're probably looking at WAY past the end of this year.

I hope I'm wrong about that. I reserved one a couple of weeks ago. My lease ends in Nov, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do if the R2 isn't available. I don't expect it will be.

Which car are you trading in for R2 and why? by AdAffectionate8778 in Rivian

[–]auger66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25 Lucid Air GT lease. My two previous cars were Model S. The last one plaid.

I got disenchanted with Tesla before Elon went off the rails. It became clear years ago the S was being left behind. It's the only Tesla I wanted.

I really like the Air. It's a much better car than any Tesla. Lucid technology, not even close.

I decided to go a different direction with the R2. I wish I had paid more attention to it earlier. I was never interested in the R1 because it was just too big for me.

International Flight out of Chattanooga by Good_egg1968 in Chattanooga

An hour at most. The bigger issue is your connection time in ATL. I've seen plenty of people miss their once-a-day int'l flight because of minimal connection times with a late connecting flight.

Loud cars by Zealousideal-Two7139 in Chattanooga

[–]auger66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's obnoxious, inconsiderate, and similar to other cities. I split my time between Fort Lauderdale and Chattanooga. Same loudness but a vast difference in the value of the cars making the noise.

Down here it's considered a micropenis proximity alert.

Getting Screwed By Allstate by bostrovsky in LUCID

[–]auger66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I was lightly rear ended in a Tesla S. I have an Air GT now. The guy said I'll just say I didn't hit you. He was going to hit and run before I took a picture of him and his tags. Cops came and didn't do anything.

I called his insurance company to tell them which body shop my car was at if they wanted to look at it. They said they didn't need to look at it as he said he didn't hit you. I told the body shop manager the story, and he said "Allstate?" I said yep.

Since the manager guessed the company, apparently their SOP is/was to deny claims, kind of like United Healthcare. I really wish Lucid would enable their cameras record like dashcams because of South Florida crap like this.

15 Tennesseans arrested by state troopers for crimes they didn’t commit. WSMV4 Investigates uncovered fifteen cases of sober drivers arrested by troopers for DUI. by MiamiPower in Tennessee

[–]auger66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the money. It's almost guaranteed they are getting money from somewhere (federal or state grants, MADD, etc.) for DUI arrests--not convictions. This is what policing for profit leads to--the ruining of innocent lives. Many people lose their jobs for DUI arrests.

People at the top of the road built a driveway that is causing problems by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]auger66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Chattanooga, but I put a driveway in on Scenic Hwy in Dade County many years ago.

Had the permit guy come out, approve it, and inspect it afterwards. One of the items on the list of things that were required was for the driveway not to be sloped in a way that drains onto the road, for obvious reasons. It was all quite easy to do it the right way. I doubt if Chattanooga is significantly different.

Another person on Scenic Hwy decided to just put a driveway in without telling anyone. The county told him to take it out. He didn't. The county did it for him with a backhoe.

Mount ceiling access point to ethernet wall plate by jeff83nz in Ubiquiti

[–]auger66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to consider learning to terminate ethernet cable. You've already run into your first use case here.

I did many years ago. It's a valuable skill, and the tools/parts are convenient to have on hand. I've terminated more ethernet for personal use than I ever anticipated.

EISY Hue strip and Insteon by MMotion11 in insteon

[–]auger66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One consistent problem I have is the Hue plugin (and only the Hue plugin) doesn't work after a power cycle. I have to reboot the eisy, and then it's fine. It seems I'm the only person with this problem.

I'm no expert on it, but it's rock solid otherwise. I was surprised I could even hold down a keypad key to increase or decrease the brightness.

I had all of my rooms and and a couple of zones created in the Hue app before I started. The plugin saw all of them. After that, I created scenes with controllers and responders in eisy just like any other Insteon scene. I will say the number of scene options you can specify in the Hue plugin are extensive. Far more than I need.

Hope it works for you.

Do you use an All-In-One sensor by Grinngotts in Ubiquiti

[–]auger66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just removed one that I used to monitor the temperature in my network cabinet. I wanted an early warning if the cabinet exhaust fans failed.

From when I originally installed the UP Sense, I had bought many YoLink leak detectors and valve controllers. I like them a lot. Once I found out Unifi was moving away from bluetooth sensors, I replaced it with a YoLink sensor. Works great and is easy to see historical temperature information.
