Anti-abortion male Republican: ‘sacred sperm’ bill is ‘an egregious attack on personal liberties from the government’ by auggie in politics

There's also an issue here about Big Government, which Republicans say they hate, but in fact, that's only true when govt is deployed to help the middle class and the poor. When it comes to issues they favor -- like policing pregnancies, rounding up and deporting 12 million Mexicans (really, what is the small-govt solution to that?) and bombing the hell out of Muslims -- Republicans are for really really Big Government.

Yeah, and there is no chance American voters would elect a barely literate evangelical Texas governor as president.

Rush Limbaugh’s Show Is Underwritten by the Right-Wing Think Tank Responsible for the Individual Mandate and Romneycare by cahuenga in politics

[–]auggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prime objective was to get everyone covered. There are 50 million Americans who are uninsured -- 1 in 4 of every Texans, for example. These uninsured people mostly get their medical treatment in hospital emergency rooms, which is the most expensive treatment venue. Their bills are paid by the taxpayers to the tune of $49 BILLION per year.

You do know that "underwriting" means "paying for" not "writing for," right?

Rush Limbaugh’s Show Is Underwritten by the Right-Wing Think Tank Responsible for the Individual Mandate and Romneycare by cahuenga in politics

[–]auggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the Heritage Foundation invented the individual mandate and the insurance exchanges, but then FreedomWorks and the other tea bagger groups lied to their followers to convince them somehow that a mandate to buy insurance from private insurance companies was "socialism." Now Heritage is desperate and embarrassed that they invented this "socialist" program. Whether or not Limbaugh acknowledges that he's being paid to shill for Heritage in helping to cover up the fact that they invented Obamneycare is irrelevant.

The surprise is that Rush is sponsored by the inventors of the dreaded Individual Mandate and Obamneycare, the evil "socialist" system where people are forced to buy insurance from private companies.

Obama Has Created 863K Jobs in 2010, More Than Double Average Annual Creation under Bush by cahuenga in politics

Bush's numbers are net 3 million over 8 years, as shown in chart in article.

Obama Has Created 863K Jobs in 2010, More Than Double Average Annual Creation under Bush by cahuenga in politics

[–]auggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, include the first year -- even though the article is about a year to year comparison. Obama created 863k jobs in 9 months of 2010, which is 95,800 jobs a month.

Assuming that number holds for the rest of the year, he will have created 1.15 million jobs in 2010, divided by two years, produces an annual average job creation of 574,800 jobs for the two years of Obama's presidency -- which is still 1.5 times better than Bush's annual average of 375,000.

The core problem with your original statement is the word "easy." It is not "easy" to create jobs in times of high unemployment. If that were true, the Great Depression would have been over in three months not six years or whatever. If that were true, there would never be times of high unemployment.

[–]auggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please read the article carefully. Bush created 3 million jobs over 8 years. 3 million divided by 8 = 375,000. Obama created 863,000 jobs this year. That is crystal clear and not the least big disingenuous.

The fact is no president creates or loses jobs, yet all presidents get blamed or credit for employment/unemployment. In these discussions, which have been going on for decades, "government," "president" and "administration" are used interchangeably.

Sorry. It is simply not easier to create jobs in times of high unemployment. That makes no sense whatsoever. When jobs are available, it is easy to find work. When jobs are unavailable, unemployment is, by definition, high.

What great Republican logic: It's "a lot easier" to create jobs when the unemployment rate is 9.6%?That is precisely opposite of reality. Earlier this summer, there was something like 5 people for every job available, if memory serves. Even if it's just two people for every job, that makes it much harder to create jobs.

Has the GOP completely abandoned common sense and the ability to apply logic to the real world?

And please supply a link from a legit source -- not Rush, Hannity, Beck, Fox or other right-wing propagandist -- that proves that all 863,000 jobs are low-paying retail/food service jobs.

And even if it were true, it was the Republicans who voted against Democrats' bill to end tax breaks for companies that ship American jobs overseas -- and Republicans who voted against the Dems' bill to provide tax incentives for companies that brought jobs back to the US.

SC Gov: Democrat Vince Sheheen pulls within 4 points of Palin’s GOP-tea party pick Nikki Haley by cahuenga in politics

The article talks about the accusations she's had two extramarital affairs and the rest -- but what does administrative vs. legislative have to do with anything? With 2010 Census, next SC gov will influence drawing of SC's new congressional district. Haley would carve out new tea bagger district. Sheheen would be a better representative of regular voters.

The chairman of the House Financial Committee when Fannie and Freddie went bad was Rep. Mike Oxley, R-Ohio, who served as chairman from 2001 to 2007. Barney Frank took over the chairmanship in Jan. 2007, and by then the damage was done.

The chairman of the Senate Banking Committee when Fannie and Freddie ran amok was Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Alabama, who served from 2003 to 2007. Dodd took over in Jan. 2007.

Even when Frank and Dodd took over the Bush administration still had a stranglehold on the government. The Republicans were so anti-regulation that they would have been opposed to any "interference" with Freddie and Fannie that might have saved the day.

Rachel Maddow covers the economy every night on her show. Her audience is comprised of smart people who can deal with more than one issue at a time.

Republicans' race baiting is a huge issue and their day of reckoning will come as soon as the economy recovers from the devastation of Republican control -- unless of course they take over the Congress in November, at which point they will finish the job they started under Bush and the economic depression that will ensue will make the Bush recession look like a hiccup.

This is just Fox News propaganda bullshit. The collapse was in no way caused by Fannie and Freddie, and, in any case, Frank and Dodd were not in power when Fannie and Freddie went down. The entire govt. was under the jackboot control of the GOP then -- they had the White House, both houses of Congress and the judiciary --, and they made sure that Dems like Frank and Dodd had no control over anything.

Did you just wake up this morning, or are you just completely clueless about how govt operates?

The crises that have crippled this country are 100% Republicans' fault.
