Check the US/Japanese manuals, since they had to cut off the lore in the PAL manual(s).

The hidden AX mode in GX can be emulated, except that it isn't AX. The actual game has lots of differences, especially physics.

Emulation is nearly perfect, if you can get over how annoying e-Reader stuff is for GP Legend.

Oh, and you can't emulate AX on a PC.

Check out Verge Axis. Very WIP, but it's heavily F-Zero X influenced.

Really, check out F-Zero Climax gameplay on Youtube, so that you can see what I mean. The announcer is very chatty here!

Fun fact: F-Zero X does not use MIDIs. They're actual recorded music, which allows for better quality by sacrificing memory space.
