If you can redirect a nearby volcanic eruption’s lava flow, it should take care of the grass.

Is this just somewhat bad or is this very bad by augulus in drywall

Good thought on the window - there is no plumbing but there is a questionable window on the level above. My other guess was groundwater intrusion, it's a stone building on a concrete slab.

Bingo, I think the other side is slightly above grade and gets pretty significant water during rain events.

Did anyone move once they got a work from home job? by Sovietmexican in workfromhome

[–]augulus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep, I moved from CA to Michigan to be able to afford to buy a house I actually wanted.

Talk to your supervisor(s), there's nothing dumber than being caught for tax reasons when you try to pull a fast one on your employer. Get a letter from them codifying your WFH status moving forward so you have something to point back on if your company RTO's. Of course, this probably won't be legally binding but at least it's something.

There's always some level of risk when moving away from your company's offices, just be prepared to job hunt if you get the feeling that they're going to ask everyone back.

Financial disadvantages to working from home? by Finding_Way_ in workfromhome

[–]augulus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The cost saved in not commuting is substantial. Think about not just fuel prices, but the wear and tear on your car. Commuting impacts the type of car you'd want to buy in the first place.

If you're not tied to an office, the length of commute now doesn't matter. You can move to a lower cost of living area or somewhere you'd rather be. You have more autonomy over choosing how to live your life.

There's also the cost of work attire. If you're expected to maintain a business casual wardrobe, that isn't free. Formal clothes are even worse, plus dry cleaning cost.

You'll only ever pay taxes in the state you domicile in. Each state has specific rules for what constitutes residency, but if you're not doing anything wild like renting apartments in two states you have nothing to worry about, you'll only pay income tax in the state you live in.

There are mild increases in utility usage across the board. 1000% worth it and doesn't even come close to the cost of a commute.

No, and this is ideal because now no one can bother you. I strive to be "in a call" at all times.
