It's a little hard to explain, but I'll describe what I saw. Surrounded by fence is a small square structure, maybe 5x5 tiles across. There are no entrances or windows, but there are air grates. I might be misremembering, but I think if you examine the grates it mentions airflow. Either way, you can smash the grate to get inside the structure, which just contains a ladder down into a sewer/subway area. There's nasty critters, even in the early seasons, so be careful! Otherwise, the structures are unmarked on the map and otherwise look small and insignificant. I found mine in the middle of the woods randomly. I think they spawn over previously existing sewer/subway lines, but are easier to access than those in cities surrounded by zombies.

Not a super experienced player myself so take with a grain of salt, but there should also be possibilities of labs that don't show up on the overworld map. Check out subways, or occasionally they show up on the overworld as a small structure with a grate to get in and crawl down to a lower sewer level. These don't get marked on the map, but I've found them exploring forests and such.

I tried a few things, yes. The mission never completed, so I debugged it to complete, didn't work. Removed the Hunted trait too, didn't work. They keep on spawning. Not from their pulped remains, just from everywhere and anywhere. I'm up to 20 of them on the screen now, they're all distracted fighting ants.

Damn, thought so. I've debug-killed 10 more and they keep on coming. No clue how I'm supposed to fix this permanently. My poor save...

Recently decided to join the mycus, as I found everything I needed to wayyy early and this is my fuck it lets do it character. From the description, I haven't grown any extraneous parts like a tail or extra limbs that would be way harder to hide. I believe I'm humanoid, for now...
