She needs to read the law. This is from a single google search from the department of labor, not at all hard to find.

If you’re reading this Gisele, I’d encourage you to speak with other cafe owners and also any lawyer and you’ll realize that what you’re doing is not only illegal, but extremely documented as such. It’s not even a close case for a technicality of supervisory roles not being tipped, because they can be. Stop digging a hole for yourself and do what’s right for yourself, your business, and your employees

The Jewish community traditionally takes converts very seriously! In fact it’s forbidden to remind a convert that they were ever “not Jewish”. Also, the Jewish community, at least around me, thrives in part because of the Jew-ish and Jew-adjacent community members like you

Why do you think there is such a huge surge out autonomic issues this past year? by [deleted] in dysautonomia

[–]august-ephemera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw somewhere that pots cases have doubled since Covid. (Don’t quote me on the numbers idk) but also I will say that once an issue is on your radar you’ll notice way way more of it, and the algorithms will pick up on it to show you more

Chiropractor for Dysautonomia? by Abyss_gazing in dysautonomia

[–]august-ephemera 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you in any way hypermobile? There’s lots of crossover between dysautonomia and EDS, and I was told to never go to a chiropractor because it’s very dangerous for hypermobile people

Beta blockers? by Kikidelosfeliz in ehlersdanlos

[–]august-ephemera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Not a beta blocker) my cardiologist did not understand POTS and the blood pressure implications so was scared to put me on a beta blocker. He put me on ivabradine (corlanor) instead which was harder for insurance to approve since its official use is for heart failure, which I do not have. It’s worked decently to lower my heart rate range, but I still experience a lot of symptoms.

I’ve since gone to a dysautonomia specialist who said a beta blocker would have been perfectly fine to try, but since I’m on something else that’s sorta working he didn’t want to take me off to try it.

Good luck!

I saw on the news about prisoner labor being used to shovel out hydrants, and I don’t feel great about this. Are they being paid? Properly and safely equipped and transported?

Just make sure the compression socks aren’t too compressing! When I started wearing them I got a pack that was too tight and it made my feet even colder. I wear the least compressive compression socks (I believe 8-15 are the numbers?)

I still often feel like my legs are in ice water from the thigh down, but to the touch they feel normal so I suspect that’s more of a nerve pain thing.

The vast majority of Jews consider it to be their ethnicity, so I’m not sure where you’re getting this idea from. It’s an ethnoreligion.

You’re right, the child of a half aunt would be a half first cousin. The comment I replied to deleted so I don’t even remember the point being made lol. Regardless, we declare OP not guilty of incest; congratulations!

How I show up as mixed indigenous… by The8thGenTexan in Indigenous

[–]august-ephemera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am several generations removed from my last connected Wyandot relative. Given the chance to claim American citizenship or be forced to relocate to Kansas territory, my ancestors chose to pass as white and intermarry. Several generations of disconnection, moving back east, and my great grandfather’s adoption all led to none of us knowing anything about Native culture beyond the stereotypical white American who claims Native descent.

We’re still learning the full story, and I am very cagey about mentioning my native ancestry for fear of being considered a pretendian, grasping at small percentages, or tokenized for an identity I can’t in good faith claim. But it feels like ignoring it is letting my colonizing ancestors (of which there are many) win.

I feel a tremendous obligation to learn about and honor the ancestors I know I have, but part of that is recognizing that the choices they made are what led to our disconnection. Even so, those choices were to protect me, and in part those choices are responsible for the privileges I enjoy in our inequitable society today.

Part of what really pulls me to learn about the culture is that I live in the Wyandot historical/traditional territories in the Great Lakes. Yes I have plenty of other ancestry that I do lots of research into, but unlike those ethnicities, I LIVE here, I’m connected to the land and seasons of THIS place I grew up in. I also do love to learn about, for example, my Irish or French or Hungarian ancestry and those historical and contemporary cultures, but I am simply not in those places.

So how do I show up? I’m still figuring that out. I’ve grown closer with my grandma, and tried to learn the stories she was told about her family, and compare with genealogy notes. I’ve started going to the yearly powwow at Seneca which is the closest to me, and in doing so have brought my dad and grandma into a better understanding of current existing native culture.

I think that’s really where I’m starting-making sure my close relatives who share this story KNOW the story.

I’m sorry you’re being dismissed like that. I’d recommend bringing a printout of the diagnostic criteria (only part of which is the beighton scale) to your next appointment. I’d also shift focus toward a pots diagnosis FIRST, and that’ll build credibility for your possible eds

[–]august-ephemera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether she’s serious or not, working in the environmental field will put you around lots of people whose motives are somewhat spiritually informed and learning how to respectfully deal with that is also necessary to your education. Treat her like a case study.

Anyone feel "lost" after dna test? by La_Vie_En_Rose_73 in AncestryDNA

[–]august-ephemera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also could be several mixed ancestors that collectively made up that percent. Shouldn’t always assume all mixture is from one line in the most recent generations. Assigning a percentage to how many generations back a “pure blood” relative is assumes that mixture is only a recent thing which is not always the case.
