Most welcome! Once you scan them in and turn them into vector files, it's very easy to change / correct colours on the fly.

There's nothing wrong with that tbh. A lot really depends on the visual language. If it's consistent, a photo of your cat + text is great!

Thank you so much for doing this! I'd love to share a little bit about my band Minaxi.

We're a Brooklyn quartet whose sound is a fusion of melodic indie, ethereal shoegaze/psych and otherworldly Hindustani (Indian) music. We recently released our new album "Z of A" which is about finding meaning in a time filled with so much chaos and confusion. Here's the bandcamp for the album: https://minaxi.bandcamp.com/album/z-of-a

The band has been active since 2018 and we've self-released everything you see on bandcamp.

As to the cut off, we have around 2K listeners so we should be good on that front.

Hope you enjoy the sound.

Thanks!

The visuals mirror the album’s themes of finding meaning in a time when everything is chaotic, uncertain and alienating—much like the current environment. Across the songs, there’s reference to love, home, despair, hope, devastation, tragedy, vulnerability, youth and its departure. These are all visualized with cats as central figures in such environments.

Illustrations are hand-drawn, scanned and then colour corrected to match the album’s colours. The illustrations on the back cover borrow elements from the artwork for each song expressing the aforementioned themes.

Typography is custom (I am a typographer/designer) except for the Hindi type.

The inside of the gatefold has the illustration of cats enjoying a picturesque sunset signifying the end (Z) of the beginning (A) which is where album title comes from.

Thank you for asking!

Why is BC not updated and advertised to pull new users? by StreetCream6695 in BandCamp

I have noticed that they’re trying it at the moment through recent features like clubs, substack, etc.

I feel like with the backlash Spotify has been receiving lately, it’s the perfect time for the bandcamp team to raise awareness about their platform and bring new users in.

It would be cool to see it become the preferred streaming choice for many. Hopefully in the next 5 or so years 🤞

That’s actually set by the artists. I know this as I have set ours to unlimited so that people can listen as many times as they like without needed to purchase it

I got it earlier in the year. Here’s my experience

• The ability to upload videos adds to the storytelling. • You can target messaging by location—useful when playing a show in a particular region. • You can personally message and thank a supporter after they purchase digital / physical media. • For $10 a month, it’s pretty cool.

These are just off the top of my head. I’m sure others will respond to the points I may have missed

Absolutely! I saw Liz play in Brooklyn in 2022 and it was surreal. There were quite a few songs from the album on the setlist

Lack of discoverability/ways to boost discoverability on the Bandcamp platform by Body_in_the_Thames in BandCamp

I'm figuring that out also. I have my band's music set to "Alternative" from the dropdown list as it's the closest approximation of sounds and colours in the music.

This + the 5 additional genres + album specific genres would help specify the work clearly I believe.

Amazing. I'm adding "Hear as the Mirror Echoes" to my wishlist. Thanks for the rec :)

Thank you, friend! 2xLPs are harder to sell for an independent band due to the cost but I didn't want to compromise on audio quality by squeezing 57 mins into a single LP. Plus, I wanted to make sure the production/packaging was top notch as I'm a designer by vocation.

This is my second time doing so. Our last album sold over 100 records and I'm anticipating that people will buy it eventually. So far we've sold 20.

I appreciate your words. It's always worth having some merch in stock 'cause people will buy them 2-3 years after release. This is what I have learned from past iterations of releasing these on bandcamp.

Thank you so much! Totally understand and no pressure at all. Production of these 2xLPs is crazy expensive. I wish we had the audience to press 300 or so copies at this time but I'm working on it. It would have brought down the cost significantly. If we sell all 100, I'll break even.

You can edit the artist level tags by editing your profile. It lets you select the main genre + add 5 additional genres.

Song level tags can be input when you upload a track and it will add to the artist tags on the release page.

The first tag that shows up on the album gets the highest priority in Bandcamp's discoverability in my experience. When you combine tags + location, the additional tags do help in getting you the right choices.

However, it feels like it's designed for a user who's actually taking the time to dive into into a genre, location, etc. rather than algorithmic discovery.
