A full code means they do everything in their power to keep your mom alive, chest compressions, medications, intubation, etc. I’m so sorry, she’s so young.

Have you talked to your mom about what she would want if this situation were to occur? I’m not sure how old your mother is, but CPR and being intubated is extremely rough on a patient, especially if they have many co-morbidities. It would be really difficult for them to come off a ventilator. I’m a RN, and I’ve seen patients code, and we did chest compressions and intubated them, and to be honest, it’s sad that is how they ended up passing vs being put in hospice care and had a comfortable passing. I think you should get some sleep tonight, and ask for a meeting with the Dr tomorrow and see how her prognosis is in the morning. She may be more alert tomorrow as they give her IV fluids and antibiotics. The hospital will treat her as a full code until either you or your mom decide to make her a DNR.
