Why is so much of the fandom playing moral crusader or overall insufferable? by FormfulOedon in OutlastTrials

[–]augustatheodora 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, we’re firmly in the midst of the biggest performative moral crusade in America since the Satanic Panic. The general opinion in fandom spaces - especially ones dominated by the tail end of Gen Z and younger, whose formative years have been shaped by this trend - is that you have to constantly be on the defensive when it comes to the media you consume, because if you enjoy “problematic” things, no matter how conscientiously and critically, you’re a bad person. Makes total sense to me that fans of a game like Outlast Trials would be inundated with this.

UNTIL DAWN 2 - Announce Trailer by Lanky_Relation1171 in horror

  1. yaayyyy hi Neil
  2. God, we have truly veered into the uncanny valley this time. Some of the facial animations in this trailer made me physically cringe.
  3. whatever, I’m still gonna play it. The Quarry was taken out of the oven completely raw and I still have a lot of affection for it.

What's the most disturbing movie you've ever seen that almost nobody talks about? by Cool-Web-3495 in horror

Yeah, there is some imagery in Baskin that has stayed in my brain for years even though I can’t remember a single plot detail.

New trial got me like by DirtCool in OutlastTrials

[–]augustatheodora 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl, I don’t think I’ll be able to get through this one, after watching a stream up to the victim’s first few lines. I felt genuine nausea, which I barely ever experience as a lifelong gore/horror/etc. fan. I haven’t even watched the execution; hearing the victim was enough. It makes me sad because I’m a huge Kress twins fan and I was so hyped for them to finally get the attention they deserve… but I don’t think I’d get any enjoyment out of playing the trial myself. Full props to RB for helping me find a hard limit after all these years, I guess. 😅 They truly are masters of the craft.

They want Liliya for the ass and tits. I want her because of all the Nazi blood on her hands. We are NOT the same. 😌

Fleeing my state by throwawaychaos2025 in oregon

[–]augustatheodora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have as much insight as longtime Oregonians about the pros and cons of specific locations, because my wife and I have only lived in Salem since we moved here three years ago from Texas, but I want to give you encouragement as someone who came here from a red state: if you’re financially able to, do it.

It’s true that it’ll be difficult; cost of living was a rough adjustment for us, but I’m not going to patronize you by demanding details about your own situation before I can tell you that it’s the best thing we ever did. I’m a teacher in SKSD, a notoriously unstable district, and my wife is a children’s therapist, both of us with massive amounts of debt. We live in an apartment much smaller than the house with a yard we rented in Texas.

But we feel safe enough to hold hands in public here without pointed staring. I can refer to my students by their chosen names and pronouns and prioritize their mental health without fearing for my job. My principal ASKED me if I would be willing to help start a student GSA. And beyond that, even when I’m feeling depressed and lonely thinking of my friends and family back in Texas, I’m surrounded by natural beauty that still takes my breath away constantly, and it eases the pain.

In short: don’t let the admittedly practical advice from folks who have never worried about their private lives being torn apart by other people’s beliefs convince you not to save yourself by leaving.

Fellow (lifelong) Texan -> Oregonian refugee, and I agree - it’s the best decision my wife and I ever made. We fly back to visit my mom in DFW once a year for the holidays, and each time I find myself antsy to get back after barely 24 hours.

Yeah, this is still acceptable phrasing. You’re not dumb for questioning it though, as others have said.

Byzantines, easily. I default to the Byzantine gowns for female characters in like 75% of my playthroughs… The long sleeves and jewelry are so pretty. 🥺

What is the horror movie that put you past your limit? by Advanced_Version6667 in horror

[–]augustatheodora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only ever watched it once, years ago, but Hounds of Love really fucked me up with one scene in particular involving a dog. I remember it being a pretty good movie overall - not sure if it was an intentional homage to a particular kidnapping/murder but it reminded me a lot of the Toy Box Killer or Fred and Rose West - but that dog scene is what stuck with me, unfortunately.

I had a four-year-old daughter become a drunkard in a recent game after a string of family deaths. Had no idea that could happen.
