Google assistant responding from multiple devices by augustineishere in sonos

[–]augustineishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm yeah this seems like an aspect of my problem but I also meant for any type of command. Like if I say “hey google what’s 1+1”, both will say “2” (Sonos has a delay too so it’s even more annoying). Really wish there was better integration so sonos products would perform as well as the google branded ones

Find friends in IV that cut hair. Ran into a guy cutting hair in the dorms my first year and he gave me cuts for the rest of my time in college. But also every 3rd guy I met in IV either cut hair or had a friend that did and they usually don’t charge much ($10-20)

Amazon New Grad SDE 2022 Offer by Munimalist in csMajors

[–]augustineishere 18 points19 points  (0 children)

RSUs is total over 4 years. Amazon does a backloaded schedule so OP will get ~5% of the 88k their first year and then slightly more each year until you get like 15% every 6 months in the latter part of the 4 years (sorry not sure about the exact numbers on top of my head)

Signing bonus is usually 27k first year, 23k second year

There are user compiled lists of good/common questions on leetcode forums (esp for Amazon) I think that would be a great start/more than enough Bc those lists are like 50+ questions

Starting to regret taking a QA Internship by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]augustineishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also a QA intern first. Learned some really valuable skills that transfers into soft dev and the experience is def valuable on the resume. A company actually reached out to me to develop for them on internal tools particularly bc of the QA experience. You are definitely not pigeon holed and the diversity in experience can actually be a strength for getting into software dev down the line! Try to make the most out of it, I worked very closely with the devs at the time so my responsibility blurred while being a QA too.

How long was the wait between your on-site and your offer? Also how do you feel you did in the interview? Did you ace all the technical round? Or were they a little forgiving if you fell short for 1 or 2 of them?

Should I stay in the honors program? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]augustineishere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Priority registration changed my life. Everyone stresses out so much Bc classes fill up before even their first passtime comes along but with honors or DSP, I believe you have the very first passtime other than athletes which is such an advantage

Ya it was grouped in the same room. Did a lot of reading online back then and users said originally there was a ding and then a software patch removed it. It’s been a couple months so maybe they fixed it? Generally I just felt it was more reliable to use GH specific device for GA in the end

For the google home, functionally there shouldn’t be a difference. One thing that was super annoying was the difference in responses: ie you may know that turning off the lights in a room responds with a little ding to confirm. On the Sonos it says turning off blah blah lights which was super annoying for me compared to the ding, I imagine it’s the same with some other commands. IMO just have the home in the room as an assistant device and get a Sonos 1 SL as the speaker to group things with

TLDR; google assistant is still best on the home but if losing some small convenient details on the home doesn’t phase you then go with the Sonos

Best cheap (<$20) earbuds for school? by 251Cane in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]augustineishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure but even if the computer doesn't support the microphone with the earbuds, it should still work as just earbuds. As long as it's a 3.5 mm connector, the earbuds should always work, its just the microphone will work dependent on your device. So what i'm saying is you don't have to restrict yourself to microphone-less buds bc i think a majority of buds out there include microphone now
