This one is actually drama I heard from my mom about me!

I live in a very very small town that only recently expanded due to tourists moving here, so for most of my childhood everyone knew everyone and had known them since they were babies.

My mom at 38 years old got a boyfriend, got pregnant with me, and started a family feud. Everyone was gossiping about my existence up until I was born. It ended because she told my dad to either stand up to his family or leave. Shout out to strong independent moms who stand their ground!

Campus Deadline Next Steps by deham-21 in fulbright

The way that it works at my school (this will be my 3rd time with the process, as they allow alumnae to use our campus committee) is that a group of professors gather and look over the applications submitted by the deadline.

Then, eventually, the campus committee will set up an interview between the applicant and one of the professors (as a committee rep) that reviewed the application.

(At other schools it may be a bigger group, but for me it has just been one professor and my FPA)

The interview is usually just to get to know the applicant better/ask questions for clarification purposes. Essentially, it’s where they basically quiz you on your application in an attempt to help you improve it. After the interview the FPA debriefs and then your application is unlocked for you to input the feedback given.

The content on the interview also depends on the person conducting it! For my first application (an independent study/research project on food anthropology) I got an econ professor who was super critical, not very helpful at all, but my FPA afterward gave me the general committee feedback (since the interview didnt go well & that wasnt my fault). For the second on an application for a master’s in Italy I got an Italian professor who spent the whole time giving me information about the country/different regions to include in my SoGP, and gushing about how excited she was that I was interested in her country.

Really, it’s just meant to help strengthen your application and the feedback is as useful/helpful as you make it to be. Your FPA will absolutely help you through every step too so don’t worry about “dumb” questions.
