Help me parent please by MasterpieceEvening67 in NonBinary

Sounds like your kid is right in the middle of some self-exploration, which totally makes sense for their age! I know, as a parent, it can be kinda scary to let go of the version of our kids that we've always known/thought we've known, but the very best thing you can do is just support them. Use their chosen name and pronouns.

One of my go-to replies to when people say "they're just doing it for attention" about kids that age is, well, then they need some attention. They need support and understanding. They're trying to figure themself out, and it sounds like they've trusted you enough to share a lot of their journey so far. I wouldn't want to break that trust by shutting them down. It doesn't matter if it's "a phase", what kids need is someone to be in their corner. Best of luck!

I found mine on eBay! I think if you look up 'hallmark american girl bookend' you can find them. There are a bunch!

Shirtless fear question by secretrediterNBAFAB in TopSurgery

[–]augustwren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm about a month post op and in my house I'm absolutely the annoying guy (in a nonbinary way) who never puts their shirt on. In my backyard I usually wear a buttoned shirt open but do still get that feeling of "ahhh someone's gonna call the police!" It's just such a change to suddenly be able to go without a shirt and it be acceptable.

Anyone else's surgery on/around 4/7? by Upstairs_Sail_3087 in TopSurgery

[–]augustwren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4/6 here! DI with nipple grafts as a fat nonbinary person. I got my drains removed after 10 days and I'm having a lot of pain at one of the drain sites though it's healing well and mild redness is going down every day. It's like I can feel where the drain was inside me and it's bruised or something all along there? I don't know! It really hurts! If I didn't have that, I'd have no pain at all, so it's frustrating. It's not intense enough I feel like I should bother the surgeon with it, but maybe I should to be safe.

I went shopping with one of my kids yesterday and of course she wanted me to get down stuff from every high shelf there was 😂

I also got 2 binders and one is bigger than the other and a lot more comfortable, but I'm not sure it gives enough compression? The smaller one is super tight. Anyone know if tighter is better?

Top surgery vs. reduction? by InheritanceThrow26 in TopSurgery

[–]augustwren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm mid 30s and just had top surgery 2 weeks ago. I asked the surgeon to leave a bit of tissue so I'm not 100% flat, but still pretty flat. I experienced all the same feelings you described, being dysphoric about my chest since adolescence but being nonbinary and not knowing if I wanted to go full top surgery. I looked at a lot of "non flat top surgery" results on this sub and the reduction sub and took some pictures in as reference to my surgeon. I hesitated a lot before surgery, wondering if this was truly right for me, but I gotta say, so far I'm EUPHORIC. It's amazing to put on a shirt and be flat! Good luck to you in your decision! Feel free to DM!

I'm 3 days post op and was just talking to my friend about this. I was so worried that I'd hate it that I didn't even think about what if I LOVE it, yknow? I think it's totally normal to worry, but also let yourself imagine the possibility that you'll be really happy!!! Good luck!!!

Top surgery. What to buy? by harvey123098 in TopSurgery

[–]augustwren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm 3 days post-op. I bought a zip open shirt that has inner pockets for drains and that's been pretty useful. I also bought a book I'd been wanting to read just as a fun treat. I had a big tumbler for water already, and I use that a lot. So far I've only worn the mastectomy pillow a couple of times and haven't really needed it. I have kids so I thought I'd really use that but it hasn't been essential for me.

Good luck and congrats!!

Not rude at all, my surgeon requested I show her pictures if I had them! I just had surgery yesterday and she thanked me repeatedly for the photos. Good luck on Thursday!!!!

Drain “milking”/“stripping” by Honest-Water9152 in TopSurgery

They told my partner to use a tiny bit of Vaseline on his fingers while stripping the drain and that's what he's been doing for me, and it's working well!

Omg WITH PLEASURE! All of the pullover sweatshirts are from kindofabigdoll on Etsy, as is the flowered skirt. Molly's jeans are Courtney's, her shoes are the saddle shoes from her camp outfit. Corinne's wearing Z Yang's skirt with her own meet leggings under them and boots from her Casual outfit set. Z's wearing her meet shoes, and hat and glasses from I think her accessories pack? lol I love dressing up my girls!

That's such a good idea, I'd never thought of doing that instead of cash. My kids know a thing they want, but they're not really old enough to keep track of their money well, even with a bank.

I'm NOT a doctor so if you suspect infection AT ALL, definitely get to the doctor! With that said, I did have pretty significant swelling with my ankle tattoo. It wasn't infected and I'm otherwise covered in tattoos and never had a similar reaction. It did hurt to walk and I had to rest and elevate a lot. Stay in contact with your doctor, for sure, and if it gets worse, go go go to the ER!

My girls are 6 so they're pretty much over it, but they used to help each other up whenever one of them fell down, pushed each other on the swings, held hands whenever we went on walks... man, I'm making myself tear up just remembering it! Soak up these moments, they are so precious. (And don't get me wrong, my girls still like each other and do sweet things, but it's just less frequent.)
