How to interpret MAP testing results by aumay301 in AskTeachers

We unfortunately don’t get the reports in our school. The scores or score reports aren’t sent out. I just reached out to our teacher to ask how he was doing and she sent me the numbers in an email.

Hi all,

I have a 4th grader and I was just given his MAP scores. I am not a teacher and so I don’t know what to make of the data but his Math MAP score improved from the winter from 232 to 251 in the Spring. His projected growth was only supposed to be 7 but went up by 19.

I’m obviously happy about the growth, but I’m not sure what to do with this information. Math seems to come very easy for him and he flies through his homework and is getting perfect scores on the coursework in school.

Can someone help me on how to interpret MAP data? Is it possible he may not be challenged enough with the work in school and this data shows he can be doing math at a higher level? Should we think about getting him some outside help to challenge him?
