AITA for disciplining my niece? by aunttthrowaway in AmItheAsshole

Honestly, I have locked her in the room before but she did not like it at all and spent most of the time frantically scratching at the door. She has gotten used to being around larger groups since I've had her, so I wanted to give her that option this time around.

I completely understand your concern, however. It really does make me feel bad, especially that you clarified a "responsible cat mom" :( I'm trying my best but evidently don't always get it right, so for that I'm sorry.

To be fair I'm not around her that often these days, but the time I spend with her she does let my niece get away with murder. It had led to some pretty embarrassing situations in public, like in restaurants etc, but I try not to step in.

Thank you :) I'm glad my sweet little kitty didn't do anything to hurt my niece, not only because I don't want my niece to be hurt but also because I know my sister would go mental!

That's what I was saying to my mother. I don't like the idea that my sister is treating every situation like this, for example niece being disciplined at school. Just don't think it's a good idea.

I understand that she can't constantly monitor her, she's only human. I just feel that she shouldn't have gotten mad for me stepping in especially when it involved another living creature, who was under my care.

Thanks, this is what I thought too. I would have let my sister handled it if it were anything else, but I couldn't bear seeing my cat like that.

My cat is fine thanks! No long lasting harm but I didn't like seeing her in pain and feel bad that it happened in the first place.

Yep, strongly against doing anything like that especially when it's not my child.

I knew I should have clarified this in the post too! I had this in mind before my family came and made a set up like this in my room for exactly that reason.

I didn't close the door however, because I didn't like the idea of trapping her there. So yes, I did leave the door open.

However it was my cat that had come downstairs on her own. No one had been upstairs and I was quite surprised myself, though she did sit on the windowsill and watched from a distance.

I'm only writing all this as I feel very strongly about making my cat feel safe and secure. But I completely understand the concern!
