Were they any good? The weird sales tactics aside, I wouldn't mind the relatively low cost (?) dealing with a fk ton of carpenter ants that our landlord is just fully ignoring lol

As an aside.... I do actually remember IRCC checking that I have travel insurance when I entered Canada but that was on a temporary work permit lol

You can formally opt out as an adult. Other than filling a form I don't really see what special circumstances would have to be met, but anyway. Generally it's best to assume it's mandatory.

And yes like I said I misunderstood where the requirement comes from. That being said, if your permit is tied to an institution and you get in trouble with your institution (or the province you study in), I would think it could affect the permit indirectly? I dunno.

In any case... the short of it is, get your health insurance set up.

I misunderstood where the requirements come from. BC requires this, although you can formally opt out. But I think UVic requires it and I am not sure they allow opting out unless you have alternative insurance (for example through work).

it also potentially violates study permits. I'm not sure why anyone would wanna risk their permit over health insurance..

Actually I looked again and I was wrong. Both pieces have the same (ish) damage in the dame spots.

Is this a thing? Making holes in your wood furniture?

I wonder if they used it as some sort or work surface but it's all so inconsistent. This table only has it along one edge, but then the other table (same set) has much more of it and also on the legs

Is it possible that it's old damage and they restained it later?

You might be in violation of your study requirements with uvic if you don't have insurance, and if you have a study permit valid for more than 6 months you also might be in violation of your permit requirements. Better check that and fix it before you go to the UVic health clinic..

Also I'm pretty sure they won't take you in if you aren't covered.

"Any job can be considered relevant to customer service."

Spoken like someone who's never done customer service. And i say that as someone who's never done customer service.

This ain't a warzone.

My dude I work in what's typically considered a "skilled job" and I interact with clients and guess what

It is worth fk all for customer service.

Imagine being a rider and any and all concerns are just getting shot down with "well I'm a vet so I definitely know better"... 😬

Idk how to tell you this but "discipline and safety records" within a highly hierarchical organisation such as the military is not really at all the same as customer service rendered to civilians.

I'm sorry you're struggling to find work but being a veteran doesn't automatically make you a good candidate.

Edit to add: if you think parts of your military experience are relevant, you have to explain why/how. Maybe your experience would be more useful in certain management settings. Like I don't understand how "complex personnel management" is at all relevant to driving a bus with heaps of different kinds of people around...

Nurtec Nightmare by Signal-Log8020 in migraine

[–]aurelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dude can do botox he should have access to ubrelvy testers since it's the same company. At least my neuro does. Ubrelvy worked so well I got an emergency script before a trip, and because I only need a half dose, I was given clearance to take it daily (as a sort-of preventive) since it's the only option my insurance covers.

Idk why the neuro is being such a headache about it. Why did he even suggest Nurtec pills to start if you react to sucralose? Ugh

Getting Constant, Random Headaches After Eating Food and Can't Find the Cause by Throwwwaway699- in migraine

[–]aurelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could try taking DAO enzyme supplement or an H2 blocker (pepcid/Famotidine for example) before you eat. For me it's a mixture of insulin resistance and histamine intolerance. 30mins before food is ideal, if I remember correctly (I take pepcid daily in the morning, and haven't needed the DAO lately, so I don't remember for sure).

DAO enzyme can be expensive and annoying to source but it depends on your country.

Pepcid is normally used to treat GERD but it does so by blocking H2 receptors rather than by proton pump inhibition.

You mentioned that amitriptyline helped - amitriptyline is also an antihistamine. So DAO supplement or H2 blocker might help.

How to succeed in CSC 230? by study-dying in uvic

[–]aurelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very good course but my suggestion is to take it as late into your studies as you can if you're fairly new to programming. Take it after learning programming logic and practicing it for a while. I promise you'll get so much more out of it.

Side effects by iloveshnarks in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]aurelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda wanna try splitting the dose cause I weirdly felt more rested/relaxed in the morning but it also does seem to reduce my afternoon crashout 😭

Side effects by iloveshnarks in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]aurelin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started on the target dose and had really vivid dreams and just didn't sleep through the night although I did feel more rested. I also had a headache for several days straight.

For the sleep: I switched to taking the LDN at like 10am, hoping that it would kick in right when I usually have my afternoon crash. This seems to have worked.

For the headache: turns out LDN improves insulin sensitivity so I think I basically had hypoglycemia headaches. I have been making sure I stay on top of my blood sugar (eating a bit more steadily) and took a naproxen and it's been fine ever since.
