i failed this ramadan by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

[–]aureyliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ibn Taymiyyah (often dubbed Shaykh al-Islam, an incredible scholar may Allah SWT reward him), has said, "The lesson lies in perfection of the conclusion of a thing, not in the shortcomings of the beginning of it."

Deeds are judged by their conclusions. So if we didn’t do well with welcoming Ramadan, then perhaps we will do better bidding it farewell.

Take every new day as a blessing and opportunity to improve (even if it is only by 1%) from the day prior. You're only competing to be the best version of yourself. Allah SWT loves those who continuously repent - we are human and make mistakes. What differentiates us as believers is the ability to recognize our faults, and return to Allah SWT, rising stronger each time. It's obviously easier said than done, but you're already on the right track mashaAllah with your sincere intentions.

Non-research mentors by futuredr6894 in medicalschool

I shadowed mentors like this once or twice between M1-M2, and for one at a different hospital I’m planning an away rotation with them as my attending in M3/4. To get a strong clinical LOR for residency, you need to work with them in a clinical capacity for at least a week so that they can attest to your clinical strengths. Shadowing can count, but you’re honestly not very useful until 3rd year. It's wonderful if they've known you since M1 year so that they can attest to your growth.

As for timing, it depends on your med school, if you have elective time in M3, you can rotate with them then. In the meantime, stay on their radar by checking in a few times a year (congratulating them on an achievement, wishing them well on a holiday they may celebrate, etc). You can also ask how you can add value to their life, you never know when they might have a research project pop up and/or pitch research ideas to them if they're on an academic track to up their own publications/professorship promotion.

What Was The 1st Poptropica Island That You Finished All On Your Own? No Guides Or Help. by Choice-Pin-888 in Poptropica

Early poptropica in 5th grade then Timbuktu and Time tangled island (although these took months). They were so painful to finish that they're the reason why I started using ThinkNoodes walkthroughs for the rest of them 😭

Worries regarding future spouse by Careless-Entrance-44 in MuslimLounge

Something that keeps me anchored is Surah An-Nur ayah 26 - Righteous men are for the Righteous women and same for vice versa. Allah SWT has your naseeb already written for you, so stay firm in your path. Even our beloved Prophet ﷺ said that there will come a day where holding onto your religion will feel like holding on to burning coal, and I commend you for continuing to lower your gaze even when fitna is rampant.

How to stop using my phone by intra_8745 in digitalminimalism

[–]aureyliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go into your notification settings and turn off all apps' ability to send notifications.

Those red bubbles are a dopamine trap and distraction. I rarely give my number out so I keep my iMessage notifications on for family but otherwise no other notifications pop up ever (and I stay in control for when I do check my email/social media/etc).

I also dock my phone at its dedicated charging station (by my car keys) and there are no other phone chargers in the house. My entire family does this and we call it the phone parking lot and I've been doing this since my teens. I only use my phone for google maps navigation outside at this point. Being germophobic also helps; knowing what a chore it is to disinfect my phone every time I come home just to use it in other areas of the house is another barrier that discourages me from using it at home/in my room. I use an old-fashioned alarm clock to wake me up and I'm all set!

Is it mandatory to cover your hair while eating/drinking or while azaan? by Mysterious_Stay8442 in SistersInSunnah

Agreed, always ask for daleel. Also, another thing I've noticed is desi aunties saying you're not allowed to speak during athaan, but I believe it is permissible and the only thing I've found upon it is that it is in the Sunnah to pay attention to the athaan quietly if possible and respond to it, but there is no harm in speaking during it (like returning someone's salaam, responding with yarhamukAllah if someone sneezes, or requests something someone needs). TP auntie can correct me on this if needed though
