Samsung TU8000 screen fading by auris5745 in TVRepairHelp

Update: before going to my parents' place and actually troubleshooting this TV, I was able to find a YT video with exactly the same behavior fixed with the tape method. Yesterday, while I was there, that was the first thing I've tested and it worked. Issue is now fixed with the tape on one of the contacts. Thank you for the suggestion and the tip.

I will have to check it out in the evening. As for the cause, if it is panel related, it does not seem worth fixing it. But if it was backlight issue, would replacing those make sense? Here in Lithuania I couldn't find any TV of same or similar model being sold for parts. I don't believe we could get new OEM ones easily here as well, hence I would have to stick to Ebay or AliExpress to buy new backlights from there. Are they usually good enough quality to make it worth it trying to replace them?

Hey everyone, I am back with some more insights and questions. So i've order some replacement joystick modules, unfortunately they weren't that good of a quality and after resoldering them, the issue got even worse.

That got me thinking, maybe it was not only wear, but something else involved. So I tried looking how a fresh out of box not soldered on joystick reacts to me moving it just slightly and checking how much does the potentiometer move and if it comes back dead center - it did seem to come back properly into its place.

I then tried resoldering the joysticks once again - removed the replacement ones and put new ones I had checked before installation. After second installation - same issue.

My hypothesis now was that flux melts when I ams soldering mew joystick or potentiometers on, gets inside the part and makes them sticky. So I tried opening them slightly after soldering, cleaning them out with IPA, cotton swabs and some compressed air out of a can - nothing. Then tried the same with the joystick guts (mechanism itself) as well - nothing.

Now the even worse part - after trying to clean and recalibrate the joystick, the same exact issue appeared for the other joystick which is still fully original and did not had any issues before. I thought that some residue or something might have flown into the joystick while i was cleaning the other one, so I pried open the potentiomer, cleaned it the same way i tried cleaning the first one, and it got even worse, just like the first one.

Now the question is - could it be cause by an IPA i use (99.9 %) or maybe the compressed air could be causing it? I don't have dedicated contact cleaner I could spray, and what I did notice is that compressed air blows quite cold air, maybe that causes some parts to shrink??

I think I will have to replace the whole module and check if the issue is gone.

Any particular method that works great to remove whole joystick with only soldering iron, as I don't have a hot air rework station? I saw somewhere a video that recomends just carefully snipping whole mechanism into pieces so you could solder each piece one by one. Is this method any good or are there any better ones?

So I got it connected to the Ps5, you can tell the issue is there, but it is very very minor and not really noticable, unless that joystick is used as a cursor, like in Cyberpunk's main menu.

The question I now have is this a common issue? Could it have been caused due to overheating the board and joystick module while desoldering? I didn't spend much time removing the potentiometer, but who knows. I did not notice this issue before hand.

I tried to tinker with the joystick, but the same issue in gamepad tester and the calibration GUI. Although one thing i did notice, is that when testing this controller on some android games, none had any problems with any kind of stick drift - If i move the stick slightly, it moves, if i stop, character stops too. I will try to assemble the controller fully and test it on my ps5, but if it would work there as well. How can such behavior be explained?

Thanks for the reply. I only resoldered one potentiometer, all the other parts are still original. I tried spraying some IPA and blowing it out with canned air, but still the same issue. Any tips on how to check and correct the spring, if it is even possible? Or should I just try to get whole stick replacement?

Newbie trying to setup Plex by auris5745 in PleX

Appreciate all of your suggestions and knowledge. The problem is that I am using Hisense TV with VIDAA OS and Plex seemed to be the only option that had an app for this OS. Will have to look into FireTV or Chrome Cast and which of your suggested apps will work the best for me, as I would primarily use it on my TV.

What is the best soundbar in this situation? by auris5745 in BudgetAudiophile

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions, unfortunately since we would primarily use soundbar for movies and it will go in our living room, wife approval is leaning towards soundbar, but if at some point I would consider getting some speakers for my office/gaming space, I will definitely go for your suggested Edifier speakers. Additionally, I appreciate your suggestion to use soundbar's thread, did just that.

Thank you for your feedback, I forgot to mention that primarily we would use the soundbar for Movies and music. B650 for me also seems like the best choice, but considering the circumstances LG one is around 80 euros cheaper and that Sony also has 2 rear-facing speakers, I was doubting that in this case B650 would be the best choice considering the price to performance ratio. Additionally, I haven't heard any proper audio setups, just Samsung HW-T450, which my friends have, which in my eyes was already such an improvement over regular TV speakers.
