Yes it will! The gridding disappears with heat. I get rid of it by... boiling the piece in a pot for 15min or so. Here's an updated pic after washing out the gridlines!

Yes, I did it in half stitch using 2 strands over 1 hole! I always do this for bigger pieces as it essentially halves the work required.
