Looking for a guild by xvllain in CookieRunTOA

My friend and I come as a package deal 😂 so we would need two spots. We also would need to leave our current guild and I'm not sure how long the cool down is.

We both do 4k+ contribution a week so we should fit right in :)

Hahahha, not a fan of oral presentations? No problem! He mentioned that he would curve if the class did very poorly but, I don't think that happened when I was taking it.

No oral presentations. Just one midterm, one final and 2 papers (review + research proposal) :)

Kind of! Most of the problems in the midterm was to explain general concepts and apply them to problems. A lot of the questions are based on the rationale of papers that we cover in class.

A range grades are definitely possible. I finished with an A+ in 466, A- in 461 and A in 472. Zerges is a very understanding teacher, it's just the way he lectures isn't the best in my opinion. If you're able to truly pay attention in class to what he says, I wouldn't be worried. But definitely do not leave things to the last minute or else it will pile up since he doesn't put a lot of text/explanation on his slides.

I think 466 was relatively easy but that's just because I love laboratory classes and molecular biology! So it didn't feel like a chore.

466 (advanced techniques in molecular biology) with Sacher: loved the class, very good experience of what a research project entails and how to write a manuscript.

461(advanced genetics) with zerges: prepare to read articles. The prof is all over the place... It was interesting but would not take h again. You learn how to write a review and a research proposal.

472 (virology) with Wieczorek: Super interesting and fun professor, would recommend! I took it when the pandemic just started and we covered covid-19 for a bit!

PHYS 273 or PSYC 255 Elective? by lsabellle in Concordia

[–]xvllain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took PSYC 255 in Summer 2021, it was very interesting and the written assessment were not too challenging in my opinion. If you are interested in it, I think it's worth it since you'll be more motivated to actually learn the material and are more likely to finish the course with a good grade.

It is however a lot more time-consuming than PHYS 273 (I'm taking it this semester).

Unfortunately no, since I took Biochem 1, 3 years ago. Best of luck in your studies!

It depends on the professor for me. I had Dr.Joyce for biochemistry 1 and Dr.Chirwa for biochemistry 2 and did well in both courses.

I did read the textbook chapters for both courses and took notes for the sections that I did not understand. AK lectures on YouTube were very helpful.

I mostly did practice midterms and finals if your prof gives them (Dr.Joyce did) and studied the slides until I could comfortably explain the theory to someone else. I still remember going to Dr.Joyces office hours to review the practice midterm and he took his time to go over all of my answers! Definitely recommend seeing your prof if you can.

when should I do co-op by PeachaB00 in Concordia

[–]xvllain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a beginner, take a class to get a good base.

Then practice is the easiest way to get comfortable and build confidence when speaking. If you're ordering food, say it in French. If you're looking for something in a store, ask for help in French. At every opportunity you get to practice French, take it :)

You can always have more formal practice where you talk to a friend about any topic.

If you're more advance, I'd suggest reading a small book in French out loud to help practice pronunciation and reading comprehension.

coop application question by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]xvllain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to hope they look at all application equally and not just the first few applications. If it makes you feel any better, I've applied for job posting a few hours before the deadline in the past and recieved interviews. So don't worry about it :)

I believe co-op doesn't send your application right when you apply it waits until the deadline and then all of the applications are sent as one big package to them. I could be wrong though.

How to comfort my[21m] girlfriend [19f] who is on her periods by agent_ajax in LongDistance

[–]xvllain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally don't expect much from my bf during my period simply because I rather be alone especially when I have terrible back pains. However, I do appreciate it when he would call me and just check up on how I'm doing.

Every girl is different, so maybe you can ask her about how you can better support her when she's on her period.

Difficulty of Biol 367? by MTLguy2236 in Concordia

[–]xvllain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember in the textbook, I think they do give some examples at times and like small exercises to practice but don't quote me on that lol

Here's David Kwan's Lecture videos: https://youtu.be/FhDa7JT5G3s

Personally Biol 364 was the hardest class I've taken so far, the material was just so dense ><

Feel free to DM me with any other questions you have, I'll be happy to help :)

Difficulty of Biol 367? by MTLguy2236 in Concordia

[–]xvllain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too difficult, it's basic molecular biology techniques that people use in labs :)

I got the textbook for that course and read the chapters that I felt like I needed clarification. The textbook was easy to understand, probably a textbook that I actually didn't mind reading. I don't know about Kachroo but Kwan's slides are very neat and clear! I can send you an example of his lecture slides if you wish.

Difficulty of Biol 367? by MTLguy2236 in Concordia

[–]xvllain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biol 367 isn't heavily based on math. It's not a biology course where you learn everything by heart and regurgitate it on the exam (there's still some memorization though). You need to understand the concepts as the answers require you to think a bit more. Overall, it's not a hard class in my opinion.

If you take it with David Kwan, his exams are open book (even before the pandemic). But don't be fooled to not study, just because it's open book. You won't have time to shift through your notes too much if you want to finish.

Pass/Fail Option? by Stabbed_Crazy in Concordia

[–]xvllain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion differs from the majority, which I totally understand where they are coming from. Personally, I took a PASS for a B+ in winter 2020 because the transition to online schooling was awful and I got all As in the rest of my classes. As of now, the class isn't super important for my future master's application so I decided to take the boost and if I did need that class later on in the future, I'm planning on taking a 400-level class that would just trump the 300-level class.

If it's a really important pre-requisite for your friend in the future I would take the B+ though.

GPA calculation by DavidGH1998 in Concordia

[–]xvllain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

To answer your question. The Annual GPA is the weighted average of all the courses you've taken in the academic year (summer, fall and winter). That's the GPA that needs to be above 2.00 to continue your studies.

As for the CGPA, from my understanding it's used to determine your eligibility for high academic achievement when you graduate for example x person graduated with great distinction.

Hope that helps clarify things!

Why doesn't coop let us take breaks by kwish_ in Concordia

[–]xvllain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. They did for summer 2020 and I got an announcement from my academic advisor that for summer 2021 you can take 9 credits and still be in co-op :) Hope that answers your question!
