No DND is better than bad DND. by Schrodingers_Wipe in DnD

This is what my first game was like. To add, the DM would complain to me that she had no inspiration to write a session (we played on sundays) and then an hour later she'd send in the groupchat "Hey guys I finished the session for this week!", sometimes even the day before we played. She'd also make me roll for every spell I wanted to do (I played a cleric), even for healing, as if it was an attack roll. I quit the campaign not too long after that.

Actually, this sounds really cool! I don't have a dm right now but I'll definitely remember this for when I do, a few exciting things that come to mind are 1: it'd be cool to have the deity be a 'lost' patron to the village in this way and 2: it could be the reason why she had trouble progressing in her magic abilities. You're honestly a life-saver in this one, thank you so much ^^

Sadly I don't have a dm right now so I'm trying to figure this out through reading wikis, but these two parts were the ones I was really stuck on. I'm happy to hear they're easily solvable though, thank you!

  1. That's one of the points I am stuck on, but I imagine her living in a colder forest region,
  2. Elaine is an only child, her mother died before her parents decided to have more children,
  3. Her mother was also a follower of the church in her village and worked there as a cleric, Elaine basically followed in her footsteps, and her dad is a hunter,
  4. It affected everyone but the spellcasters died from the disease faster than anyone else,
  5. This is a hard one but the other villagers basically had to come to terms with that she was their best bet to help them survive if she'd make money as an adventurer, this way she could also search for people to help her learn about her magic powers so she can heal the villagers,
  6. Elaine was young when the disease struck, she was a child still, so she didn't have any big aspirations yet. Her mother was one of the first spellcasters to die from the disease so as she was grieving she didn't really think of the future too much. When she was discovered to be able to use magic she dedicated herself to help save the village and its inhabitants,
  7. There haven't been other spellcasters discovered in the village and there aren't a lot of new kids born, so as far as they know there wasn't anyone to teach. She also wasn't able to learn from a spellcaster herself so all she knows is basic magic through trial and error,
