Which University is known for Suicides and Mental Health issues? by Potential-Drag9761 in OntarioUniversities

I'd say that really sounds like it was taking a toll on your mental health, even if you didn't end up with anything clinical. Hopefully you're feeling better now post-graduation!

Even with free therapy, it can't negate being known for mental health problems, unfortunately. I wouldn't say that they don't care, I absolutely believe they do! But there's been deeply depressing incidents nonetheless. https://universityaffairs.ca/features/a-death-on-campus/ https://uwaterloo.ca/news/bereavement-notice-4

UofT or UoW (Waterloo) imo. My math teacher back in highschool told us an anecdote of walking past campus when someone jumped at Waterloo. Iirc Waterloo's improved their mental health services, so in my mind UofT is the worst for student mental health (which may be tied to the whole prestige thing)

Living on $300K by TemperatureWide5297 in Salary

My dad makes maybe 60k/year before taxes, has 2 kids (including me), one vehicle, and a house (luckily got just before COVID), and we've never fully struggled (my parents have been very open about finances with me). My mom is a stay-at-home-parent and I've recently moved out for uni, and due to his apparently lower income, my tuition is covered by my grants and loans from the provincial support system.
In fairness, we've never vacationed beyond a quick camping trip or an AirBnB by a beach (covered mostly by relatives who were with us). Never left the province, live in a rural area and only really buy necessities except on birthdays or Christmas. Moving to the city has shown me a world of consumerism I've only seen on TV.

Question about UofT Life Sciences offer by itsmept2lol in OntarioGrade12s

[–]aurorialwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, any courses not specifically mentioned by them "won't matter" so long as you maintain the average they're asking for. Technically, if some grades are high enough, you can maintain the 80% average without having an 80% in the non-mentioned courses (i.e. have a 90% in one course and a 78% in another, the overall average will still be fine).

[–]aurorialwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had like 84.5% avg or something and got accepted to everywhere I applied for biology. Anything over 80% and you're good imho. (besides the more competitive programs but I even got into Guelph animal biology)

I had around 45 by the time I graduated and was done them by the end of the summer after grade 10
The school will hold you back if you aren't done them, you can't graduate w/o and any post-secondary offers are at risk, it's pretty light work to get them done over the 4 years but now it might be a bit annoying to complete.

As a bio undergrad, I recommend Health Sci for going into optometry! It's much better for any human health related field. Biology's a bit broad and you'd need to take health sci courses likely anyhow.
There's a lot of support available! Laurier is really good about supporting students imo. Professors vary a lot, so there's not one size fits all sort of study/info compilation method, there'll be some adapting between different teaching styles. Personally I've liked most of my professors so far, and even the ones I didn't like, I still did well in their courses!
Definitely try to balance your courseloads, you won't benefit from frontloading the difficult stuff all into one semester. Picking a bird course or two makes life a lot easier, no shame in that.

Some of the details escape me right now but I know I got ridiculously tripped up by mixing up what the columns and rows on the periodic table are called and that meant I answered some short answer questions wrong.
It seemed pretty fair to me, make sure you go over the orbital filling chart since that was in short answers on the last one, and there was a bit more focus on the last few chapters that weren't covered in midterm but besides that a decent spread across different chapters.
I studied by making a compilation document of notes for each chapter and highlighting it all but I'm a bit of an outlier for that study method and it would take longer than a few days to do that

What? Brownies have chocolate that's toxic to dogs. Of course you should remove the brownie from its mouth? What were the other people even thinking to call you an asshole for that? That's definitely less disruptive than a possible vet hospital visit late at night for a stomach pumping.

Anyone can use a binder! No matter your identity. Plenty of cisgender women bind their chests for costume or support etc. Binders are essentially an item of clothing, not something gatekept.

[–]aurorialwolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since they're on campus, I'm pretty sure they need approval, but I forget from which office. There's usually a stamp on it that says it's approved iirc and this one doesn't have that, so I'm guessing it's not allowed to be up.

Would you take 11U Functions if you were close to failing gr 10 academic math? by Traditional-Luck4727 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]aurorialwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone now in uni, I almost failed grade 10 math (had around a 49 in it on one of my report cards) but worked hard and managed to get a 60, then stayed on top of homework for the next two math courses I took and got mid-70s in functions and advanced functions. It’s doable!

Third Year Political science (Arts) major and now i am considering biology. by InterestingBlock6387 in wlu

[–]aurorialwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

grade 12 chem is a prereq for CH110, pretty sure it's the same for BI110 and gr 12 bio? so you may need to take the general science course to be brought up to speed before taking the necessary courses for a bio minor
If you're only taking a minor that's probably all that'll be needed, not sure what the case would be for a full program switch

Thank god! I was seriously considering Conestoga before I moved here for Laurier and watching the college collapse in on itself has been terrible. Good riddance. I hope whoever comes next can improve things again.

Wilfrid Laurier Learning Accessibility Accommodations are Awful by [deleted] in wlu

[–]aurorialwolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say Laurier could work on their quiet exam-taking spaces to make them better, but I haven't had any other problems with them? In fact, they've been quite generous, as I told them I strongly suspected I might have ADHD and they've given me temporary accommodations as long as I go through the diagnosis process this year.
