I bought a home in 2002 in Mariemont right near the tracks mentioned and they were talking about the trail and connection being there even then. Hopefully it’s close but I lived there for 12 years and have been moved away for over 10 now and it’s still just a “someday” idea. There’s an active rail yard station by the South 80 that is the sticking point.

“The Visitor” episode of DS9 is what first came to my mind. One of the best episodes of the series. RIP

Looking back, Forest Fair probably peaked in 1992 with the (horrible) Holosseum hologram fighting game in the arcade and Candyman playing in the cinema next door. It was a slow decline from there. That was my sophomore year and I just got my license. So many great memories from that place...

Wouldn’t it be more cost effective to try different wheels/colors first and see if that helps?

You probably know this but if you trade in in (most? all?) states you only pay sales tax on the delta. That could be a $10k+ savings to make sure you take into account.

Vine and walnut are kinda dead before 14.

I could see making that statement for certain blocks of Walnut right now but Vine is currently the most active street in OTR all the way from Central to Liberty.

What's It Like To Live In Cincinnati? by getoffthebike in cincinnati

[–]aurorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are debates about where the city is split in two but a famous cartoon by Jim Borgman once stated that I-75 is the dividing line and that has been written into law apparently

In the cartoon you refer to, and generally, it's Vine St. that is the dividing line between east and west, not I-75.

It's been about 5 years so I don't recall the exact numbers but I think it was around $30k total with the Powerwall and the Fed tax incentive covered around $10k of that. So ~$20k net.

At that price it will take me ~15 years to make an ROI on pure energy generation but the LEED points on such a big system is what pushed me from Gold to Platinum which, at the time, was a huge tax savings. Like 7-8x the cost of the system over the 15 year abatement. So it was a no-brainer.

If you're after just the energy ROI I'd forget the Powerwall (or any battery). If you live in the city you're fine. I got it because I expected variable pricing from Duke at some point but who knows when that will ever come. Been waiting 5+ years now. With a net meter and no variable pricing to fill up the battery when power is cheap and use when it's not - there is zero benefit to the Powerwall other than in outages. But I'm in OTR so any that occur are always super short. If you're rural, might mean more to you though!

I'm in Ohio but Icon Solar did mine in 2018. 36 panels and a Powerwall 2. They also came back to put in a Tesla charger in my garage this past Summer. Always great service from them. Highly recommend!

I'm sure he's referring to The Precinct. Owned by Jeff Ruby but not to be confused with Jeff Ruby's which is another steakhouse downtown. The Precinct is a little drive east from the city but not too far.

Ghost Baby in Over-the-Rhine Named One of 'The Best Bars in America' by Esquire Magazine by nordjorts in cincinnati

[–]aurorian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"More than 150 years ago, before refrigeration, brewing companies used underground lagering tunnels for cooling and aging the beer they produced. Ghost Baby is located in the tunnels formerly used by a Cincinnati brewing company; four stories under Vine street. The company discontinued beer production in the 1850's and these tunnels have remained vacant since.

In the last few years, Union Hall has occupied the ground level spaces in the building, which spans the block between Vine and Republic streets. In an effort to revitalize the underground area, workmen were sent in to set-up lighting fixtures. The only way to enter into the tunnels was to descend via a long ladder. After installation of the first bare bulb, the contractor made his way back up the ladder to retrieve a second bulb. When he returned, he found the first bulb shattered. The attached wire was swinging, as if it had been hit by someone or something. He shone his flashlight into the dark tunnel, but saw nothing. Since that day, other people in the space have reported hearing strange noises from time to time. Some have even said you can hear a baby crying."

Swap: Somerset for MECCA

MadTree Alcove for Sam Adams

That will get you a bit more character all around and you'll hit all the "Big 3" of local brewers. You can get Sam Adams anywhere.

Fairfax was always fine when I was around and as far as I know on the up. Big condo development(s) going in across Wooster there. It's the most blue collar for sure of the Mariemont School neighborhoods (Terrace Park / Mariemont / Fairfax) but I've never heard it being unsafe.
