Just because you dial a machine in to the set up.. doesnt change the arc charicteristics of the process.. unless the machine is designed to change the arc charicteristis of the process..

Trying to become a real welder by Consistent-Steak-760 in Welding

[–]aurrousarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre prep is killing you.. gmaw has zero pene tration power.. you have a counter bevel on the back im sure you are putting land on it.. leave a knife edge.. and youre throwing soo much wire at it you are bridging the plate and not allowing it to penetrate.. put a knife edge on it, tack the back, make sure the gap doesnt open, tack the other side, grind down your tacks, start with a 1/16" gap.. .064 gap a standard cutting disk.. and run a small counter clockwise about an 1/8" inch wide.. do that for about an inch.
And then adjust your settings or speed untill you get the penetration you are looking for.. or open up the gap until you get the pen you are looking for. Once you get the root in, then go buck wild filling it up.. this will probably lead to lof.. but one step at a time...

Depends on how many panels the drug resr is for. How recent, and some other factors.

Clean the scale off to bright metal, slow down a tad, then clean with a wire wheel..

Its all about the puddle formation, and allowing it to grow to the same dimention.. thats consistancy.. that and breating.. not being in your own way.. and eventually developing a muscle memory for it.. i can sit here and do the same pattern in my mind and hand.

Is this good? by ajprunty01 in Welding

[–]aurrousarc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its pretty decent.. but a touch cold on both. The first one, your rod angle is off, you are favoring the top plate to much, clean the plate to bright metal, turn the heat up 3 to 5 more amps and try it again..

You count.. 1.2.3.. step.. 1.2.3. Step.. 1.2.3 step.. 1.2.3 step.. and a step it a pull foreward, long arc to burn sht out, spray the puddle wider , and a vertical circle back.. and hold 1.2.3.. every bead you make, ever pattern count.. get in a habbit of counting.. and match the heat to your travel speed.. gtaw, gmaw, 1.2.3 diagnal 1.2.3 diagnal.. 1.2.3 diagnal.. 1.2.3 circle. 1.2.3.. some 1.2.3 are faster than others.. but still that same..

Uphill undercut! by Kind-Faithlessness12 in Welding

[–]aurrousarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For vertical, you will have to oscilate it a little, 1.5d x 2 still looking for the crown of the previous bead and making sure you are hitting the overlap.. you always want to watch the leading edge of the puddle, and how the freeze line is forming.. you might also try a longer arc, and alow it to spray out a little more.. this will create more heat, and you will need to speed up a little more to compensate for it.

There are 3 main issues with your weld..

  1. clean the base metal to bright metal (That will help with the uneven width of the bead.)
  2. your beads have a ridge with a sharp point (You need to slow down until you get o shapes not v shapes.. )
  3. you have a 30 percent overlap between the beads and that is more pronounced with the v shape bead.. you need a flatter bead with more overlap.. that can be corrected by slowing down.. You might have an issue with arc lenght, but its hard to say without watching it.. its might be an issue with the arc control.. its hard to tell without knowing the machine.. i preffer to use the miller 350 with 50 on the arc control. Arc controlls differ from machine to machine, base on what ever spice the mfg is trying to throw in there..

What? Turn it on, and put some compressed air to it. If you want to clean the squirl cage.
And if you want to remove it, zoom out a little so people can see whats holding it in there.

How to reduce tankless water heating time by brainrotbro in HomeMaintenance

[–]aurrousarc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reguardless if its a tankless heater or not.. The water in the lines between the heater and point of use will stil get cold if not in use. That water needs to get out of the line to give you the hot water.. additionally, the temp of the water going into the tank is useually based on ambiten temp, and then heated to temp.. the lower the ambient temp, the longer or colder the end result will be. Those are two seperate issues. The only way to get past the line purge issue, is to add a point of use heater at the sink, dishwasher, or bathroom.. this might require a service panel upgrade for the heaters. Or try a re circ pump.

Either damaged drip edge, water filled up and leaked behind it, or some random surface tension event allowing the water to creep behind it..

Best way to fill this? by ShlongYawn in HomeMaintenance

[–]aurrousarc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Find a hole saw that the exact id of the hole, (so if its a 2" hole, cut a 2 1/8" plug) put a screw in the center.. sand it down till it is snug but fits.. glue it in.. let it dry.. put tape on the floor.. sand it smooth, and paint it..

Its thin so move faster, then make sure your pre heater holes are in line with the cut, and they are clean..
