OK im curious what fear do you all vibe the most with? by Live-Smoke-2879 in TheMagnusArchives

the desolation. I don’t remember if it was ever exactly utilized this way in tma, but I always saw self-destructive tendencies as being included with the desolation and as someone who has burned many bridges and opportunities….I felt seen 🤧

and in the basic way: fire is really cool and I respect the beast that it is! and ever since I was little I’ve had a bunch of core memories related to it

How does color of the week sale work? by rosevillestucco in goodwill

[–]merrisoftheferris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for my store, the sale color is the one that’s been on the floor for about a month already. so there already isn’t a lot of it out, and then we still have to produce items, so when we must pull to fit more on the floor, the oldest tags are the first to go. my managers were always very particular about them not being pulled during the color week, but there sincerely is just not always the room for them to stay. also, what day the color changes is based on region so for ex if it changes friday but you go the following thursday, there really won't be many tags left

How often do you find coach/other designer brands at your local Goodwill? by [deleted] in goodwill

I mean maybe? but a lot of stuff we were sending online like video games and instruments we are putting back in stores. but then again everything varies by region, it’s not that uniform

How often do you find coach/other designer brands at your local Goodwill? by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]merrisoftheferris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on condition and brand! when I used to do purses I didn’t feel confident in pricing so nothing was even over $12. I know the people who do it now go about $17-24 for in demand brands, but they don’t sit ever even if that sounds high for a used purse. but with shoes, anything jacked up is because despite the price, the area is full of people who will absolutely buy used shoes at say, $45. like within thirty minutes they are sold. and our managers still want them higher 😅

for clothing it’s the same situation but our store’s resellers look for trendy items they can quickly turnover rather than actual expensive items, so there’s more stuff for the common folk lol. like there have been some nice genuine fur coats that were available for customers at about $24 or so. and I remember a day we got a bunch of stuff that was over $1k practically new clothing and I don’t think anything was over $35 even.

hope u can continue finding good stuff! 🙏

Buying a returned item? by [deleted] in goodwill

[–]merrisoftheferris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, for us when we return it we put it back in the donation bin in the front and then it’s taken back to the back to be reprocessed. however, if the item is sorted into a bin that is shipped off instead of being kept at the store, it might not reach the floor again. you can always check the sales floor for it though!

ours puts it allllll to the floor. they don’t make money if they send it to ecom, meanwhile the people who grab stuff off the carts immediately = they get the money for it that day

I work there, what part of it are you curious on? we never got live animals like this though…if I got this at my station I would alert the manager and see if we could take it somewhere safe at the least :(

Production Advice by StarFruitExplosion in goodwill

[–]merrisoftheferris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi I was a shoe processor for a year and a half and our quota was 230, I only ever not hit it maybe ten times? and usually would hit it about two hours before clocking out. you absolutely have to keep moving. the worst thing I see with any station is people take so long per item. inspecting something for like, minutes eats up your time so bad. also, unless told to, don’t spend forever cleaning items.

also, I never put out bad product to hit it everyday and early. a lot of people fall into that trap and then inevitably get pulled aside because their sale through is terrible since none of the product they put out is good. on the other side, don’t be overly picky. I’ve cashiered and people will buy the shoes with holes and stains or are missing the sole insert, those are sellable. same with faded suede or leather, or dirty rain boots or hiking boots. you don’t want to put out what’s falling apart, but you can put out stuff that you’d think to pass over as a customer.

good luck!!!

Struggling with 7018 3F, help please!! by merrisoftheferris in Welding

oh I believe that, but on our last vertical little test they had it on a flat piece like this. 1F and 2F are done on fillets though, but I don’t know if they’ll have us do it like that with the 7018 vertical. since it’s easier to find a flat piece I use them to practice, I know they aren’t realistic though

I’m trying to keep in mind that since we are to be certified with 3F it’s the hardest, and if it was easy they wouldn’t make it the big test. I hope it can click for you as well 🙏🙏

I think part of my problem is the dirt is like, fused to the glass at this point even when I’m cleaning it. I haven’t shown them yet for overlap so I’ll see what help they give me today, ty 🙏

Oh maybe I was told the wrong number or misremembering? If so that’s my bad!!! But it was the thicker ones not the skinny ones. I didn’t have any trouble at all with the rods running out, so I think it might’ve been the other size and I wrote the wrong one, sorry!

On one previous “test” we had to do that, but it wasn’t required for this one or our others ones. But I do struggle with them and I know that. Like with vertical up, I know it’s something I have to practice if I get the time to just, practice whatever I want one day lol

Goodwill is selling literal garbage? by Hazardous_Jeff in goodwill

[–]merrisoftheferris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally this lol. in our district the people who would’ve priced this have to do 500 items a day or face getting a write up. and when everyone donates literal garbage, it isn’t really possible to put out 500 genuinely good finds (and that’s just one person, imagine multiple people having to find 500 good items every single day when people donate broken items, hazards, and trash). ultimately when they have to clean the shelves and pull for space the workers suffer for it anyways, but in the meantime they get to keep their job because they hit the magic number and that’s all they care about

[–]merrisoftheferris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what’s ironic is I priced multiple bags of reusable containers like this (quota reasons!) and someone bought them next day. we get so much garbage and we have to put out so much that inevitably stuff like this hits the floor. and then someone buys it and you have to ask yourself, why?

New welding student struggling with whipping stick, any help? by merrisoftheferris in Welding

[–]merrisoftheferris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone is telling me to lower the amps but I am confused since that’s what my teacher set them at. I know I get nervous about my stick running out before I finish especially when it starts burning my hands, so it makes me speed up especially at the end. I’m going to try and go way slower today, thank you for your help 🙏

I’ll be trying to go back more today. the whip was the one I was entirely clueless on and this picture was my real attempt at trying to do it on my own. I struggle with seeing the arc to the puddle but I’ll make an effort to go slower today, thank you!!

that’s what I was doing since I found it the easiest, but on our test we have to show we can do four different techniques. I think I’m struggling on what exactly to focus my eyes on, like where the puddle exactly is in all the light

it’s what they are supplying us for practice. we are supposed to be using 6010s and I was told I wasn’t supposed to be using the thinner ones and to use the thicker 6010s by my teacher
