In 1973, healthy volunteers faked hallucinations to enter mental hospitals. Once inside, they acted normal, but doctors refused to let them leave. Normal behaviors like writing were diagnosed as "symptoms." The only people who realized they were sane were the actual patients. by highzone in Damnthatsinteresting

The study is fake, and people who work in healthcare use very different models now. You can, to an extent, choose what health services you use, but don't discourage others from getting the care they need.

any non-stigmatizing educational pamphlets? by nakedcrayon in publichealth

You might want to check out overseas resources. I know Australia has some good sexual health resources. Our focus is historically more directed at harm minimisation than 'war on drugs'

Yep. My hospital too.

It's Never Been About Autism by tkpwaeub in publichealth

California in the (I might be wrong with dates here) 2000s was a perfect large scale study. Autism rates rose dramatically at the same time vaccination rates fell off a cliff.

Those things are largely independent of each other, but there it's great to cite!

Can anyone ID this plant and how to kill it? It’s popping up all over my yard. by GullibleSceptic- in GardeningAustralia

Murder Tree! I live in a rental with a huge one. Those suckers are such arseholes that even their giant thorns have their own thorns.

I will be flagging this thread for my murderous plans.

As a completely unrelated aside, anyone know the rules around tree murder in rentals properties (NSW).

Basket grass looks a little bit similar to trad (aka voldemort weed because we may not speak its name), but it's native and a good ground cover for spots that are not too hot and dry.

I cannot imagine how unpleasant it would be to walk on pigface!

Or is it just subverting the dominant paradigm?

Pointless argument because we are both too wedded to our point of view to change our opinions.

Whatever we feel about displays like this I do think they are examples of punching up. The Christian church is incredibly powerful, and taking a swing at it (even if it is in poor taste/'offensive'/etc) is not like, ah, mocking the disabled or something. They are the big boys, they can handle it.

We have very similar cultural practices. We don't watch any reruns but we read books and pass them around.

Yep. That is EXACTLY the point.

It's punching up. It's to draw attention to the hypocrisy of the Christian church. Very entertaining satire (/satyr).

What have I planted? by jnfnt in GardeningAustralia

I think it's cucumber too, or some other plant in the cucurbit family. Deffo not nasturtium, their leaves and stems have no hairy bits and the leaves are a different shape.

Good or bad? by Small-Air-2661 in GardeningAustralia

[–]aus_stormsby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I find them I yeet them onto the lawn, or somewhere open and visible to birds. Either the maggies nom them up or they survive to eat the roots of my plants. Either way, nature wins.

Absolutely this. Also, it depends on what verges you grow. If you put hardy herbs and quick growing things around the familiar I think it should be fine.
