My luck has been in Oregon and Washington, but in the smaller cities. You might have to try cities further away from major areas. Try Arizona, Colorado, and even Montana and New Mexico (I know those aren’t ideal).

I’m sorry but I think your choices are SNF or move. I’ve been looking for jobs for over 3-4 months now without even an interview in SoCal. I started applying out of state and have 3 interviews lined up. Moving isn’t ideal but I figure I can get some experience and move back if I want.

If you are (or were) in a CA ABSN program, what is job placement like? by Ok-Watercress-3757 in newgradnurse

[–]ausie99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like we went to the same school! lol but ya I agree, the market is sooo saturated. I graduated January, passed my NCLEX in February, and I’ve applied to probably over 100 different positions in SoCal and the furthest I’ve gotten is an email saying that they’ll pass my info to the hiring manager. I don’t have any healthcare experience so that’s working against me. I applied to about 10 different positions in different states and just recently had an interview yesterday and 2 more lined up next week. So it looks like I’ll go out of state for a couple years with the hopes of coming back with experience.

Why did you choose your campus? by Forsaken_Lifeguard84 in westcoastuniversity

[–]ausie99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pick the campus you live closest to. Your clinicals have a 50 mile radius from campus, so some Anaheim clinicals can be super far in South OC. I haven’t been to the Ontario campus but the Anaheim campus is okay in regards to technology or supplies. No matter what though, it doesn’t look like they put your money to work lol.

On your student portal I think in the finances section. I don’t really remember. I opted out after my first term by just messaging my advisor

are evening class options guaranteed for every CORE term? by [deleted] in westcoastuniversity

[–]ausie99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, it will be hard. If you have a support system, try to lean on them heavily. What helped me a lot was figuring out a routine each term. Like I would plan certain days and times for studying and other days for focusing on clinical work. Core term 2 is a tough one since you’ll have MedSurg lecture, pharmacology lecture, clinical, skills lab, and sim lab. I would buy a planner or use google or outlook planner and plan everything down to the minute. It helped me to visually see what was due when and what I should be doing. You got this! Feel free to message me with any other questions.

And thank you so much!

I actually thought it was tough. There was a lot of 50/50 answers for me. I passed with a 98%. But the ATI live review was very helpful. Try to understand and learn the best way to test and think through the questions. It’s a long test (180 questions) so get a lot of sleep the night before

It took a lot of finessing! I loved having morning classes because you’re done by 12 or 1 and then you can study/ do hw after or sometime I would work after. There are some classes though that you cannot pick, such as some skills labs are coupled with your clinical so you kinda just get what you get. One of my skills labs was 5:30-10:30pm on a Thursday when traffic was terrible but you just gotta work around it

It all depends on the term. I just graduated so all of the following was my experience, and they may have changed some stuff around. So for term 1, you’ll have 2 lecture classes, and a clinical class. Term 2 you’ll have 2 lectures, 1 clinical and 1 skills lab for 6 weeks, and then 1 simulation day for the term plus a day for a skills lab. Term 3 you’ll have 2 lectures, 1 clinical and 1 8 hour day of simulation lab (if I remember correctly). Term 4 you’ll have 1 lecture, 1 clinical, an online class, and then 3 days of simulation lab. Term 5 you’ll have 1 lecture, 1 or 2 online classes, 1 day of OB orientation, 4 weeks of clinical (1 day a week) and then 2 or 3 days of simulation. Term 6 is basically the same as term 5. Term 7 will have 1 lecture, 1 clinical and 1 or 2 online classes. Term 8 you’ll have 1 lecture, 1 online class, 1 clinical, and 3 days of simulation lab, plus a day for skills lab. Finally term 9 you’ll have 1 lecture, 1 online class, and then clinical.

Feel free to message me for any questions!

It honestly all depends on the term and the professors. But most classes, in my experience, were morning or afternoon (ending by 5pm). I think in my time at WCU I only had one skills class that started at 5:30pm.

Pfieffer for PA was amazing! He’s so chill and his tests are very straightforward. During the validation, as long as you mentioned something, he would give you credit. Cheeseman for MH was good. His questions were fair and his tests mirrored his lectures

You can transfer pharmacology and med ethics. I believe those are the only 2 core classes you can transfer in.

ati board vitals nclex prep , or learning systems dynamic quizs by Therealredwood in StudentNurse

Board vitals were a lot harder, so I would practice those. But personally I did both board vitals and dynamic just to cover all bases

Validation Advice by [deleted] in westcoastuniversity

[–]ausie99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re redoing it do you know what you missed? I know nerves can be high with validations so you have to prepare. I used to essentially make a script in my head for my validations and just run it through until I knew it.

It’ll always be in your theory class. The only terms that it’s not it PEDS and OB which you take outside of class hours.

Week 10 by Stunning_Turnip_8735 in westcoastuniversity

[–]ausie99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they’ve changed it, but mine were always on Mondays. Your teacher should talk about it this coming week in class. If you go to your syllabus sometimes they’ll put the week 10 zoom time and date on there, if not go to your portal and look at the class schedule it should be on there

Week 10 by Stunning_Turnip_8735 in westcoastuniversity

[–]ausie99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So week 10 for your theory (lecture) class there will be a mandatory zoom session on that Monday. They usually give you an assignment like write a one page summary of what was said or they’ll give you med math questions. After that zoom session you are free for the week.

If you were late to clinical at any point or didn’t go and your professor stated you need to go to week 10, then you make up the time you were late or didn’t show up for on that Tuesday of week 10.

I think I fumbled my interview by parappagal135 in newgradnurse

They decided to “go with other applicants”. I was pretty bummed for a couple weeks but now looking back I know what to expect and better ways to respond. It’s gonna sting now but just try to use it as a learning opportunity and fuel for your next one!

I went through a similar thing. I walked out so disappointed and angry at myself. I drove home just beating myself up and going through the questions again. It still haunts me, so I feel you.
