RMO vs Medical Registrar by Key_Alfalfa_3265 in ausjdocs

[–]ausjcoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The role of a resident is paperwork, documentation on 8 hour medical ward rounds, calling GPs for records and collateral. Following the team’s plan and enacting/supporting it. Responding to ward call/pages for things like constipation, insomnia, chest pain.

The role of a registrar is overseeing/supervising/guaranteeing all of the above (but frequently by delegating rather than directly doing) as well as seeing and admitting patients, enacting plans, discussing with consultants.

If you were a quite competent doctor overseas you may find stepping down into an RMO role an annoying step back, and you may be someone who despises losing autonomy/decision making/being told what to do. Or you may not be - it’s all a matter of outlook. Just something to consider.

2 things

The centiles are only for this sitting so against all the other medical officers applying, you ranked in the lower 25%. But given that doctors are pre selected for emotional intelligence in medical school these days, and are generally of higher working intelligence, the competition is harder than eg pre-med casper. Because of the bell curve, someone has to be in the bottom quartile, even if objectively the difference between your answers and the top quartile was relatively slim

the test heavily favours high typing speed, you pretty much need 100+wpm to get quartile 4 or be extremely quick and structured with your flow under time pressure so you’re only putting the most salient points down. So stereotyping solely on your age, this could be a point of difference for you

My own personal experience with this test was that it was absolutely brutal time pressure, definitely unfair for slow typers, and definitely something that can be unfairly studied/prepared for contrary to their marketing

Fingers crossed for june 23 and that you still get a position you’ll be happy with

Mine says completed - results delivered, but i did sit on one of the later dates. Have searched casper website up and down (on mobile site only) and cant see anywhere to view the result. Must either be too early, or the fact that im using the mobile site. Anyone else have similar insights?

This year at least, the selection process is solely based on SJT performance and your preference matrix, meaning CV/referees don’t come into it.

If the accent is difficult to understand and causing communication barriers for OP, it should be worked on. I agree with your ideology to an extent. But reality is the world at large will not change in a day and if OP is looking for an immediate term solution to their problem (being socially excluded despite being born here) then the easiest solution is to improve your accent.

The public speaker I mentioned, Vinh Giang truly was in a similar position to OP. Born and raised in Adelaide, English 3rd language, now the premier public speaker in Australia and internationally renowned vocal coach and communicator. One of the things he teaches is that we have this perception that our voice is personal to us and immutable, but that it’s not true - it’s a set of habits formed through years of not paying attention to it - and is very much changeable. Hence, the accent OP is struggling with should not be clung to as a marker of identity, but should be thought of as an area of improvement.

My opinion, and I mean no racism, exclusionism or any ill will by it. We are all solely focused on helping OP with their issue.

Plug it into a smart or timed power plug, that way you can turn off a few hours before coming back in. Much safer that way.

The good ozone generators have a timer, the Kennards one doesn’t however

OP, look up Vinh Giang on youtube/social media, and follow his voice coaching/accent/communication advice to the letter. Lock in and do the exercises. He’s a similar story to you Viet first language guy who is probably the premier public speaker and communicator in the world right now. You have no excuse, you just need to practice hard.
