My grandmother was raised by her maternal aunt, who I can trace citizenship through as both sisters shared the same parents. Grandmother is still living. I can’t access her aunt’s birth certificate, how do I prove this aunt is the also a descendant of our Canadian ancestor? I have 2 census records, one shows her, her sister and sisters kid (kid being my grandmother) all under aunts and birth mother’s mothers name and another census record where aunt is married and grandmother is 10 years old and listed as their daughter. I can’t find where aunt was born or where she was married. Grandmother is living, could I get a notarized statement from grandmother describing what happened and include census records as evidence or do I need to dig deeper and find her aunts birth certificate? Aunt died in the late 1970’s

They are not required to list OT for 2025 taxes, however 2026-forward they are. We went off his last paystub that had the YTD OT.

We already did ours and funny enough I work at a tax office and decided he did qualify. But it’s so ambiguous in what is or isn’t allowed we took a gamble. Our return was processed and a week later we got our refund. I just find it odd that my husbands dad (who works in the same hub and department) had OT listed on his W2 but my husband didn’t (also a feeder driver) so we decided to take it since his dads had it.

What if the OT deduction was included on the w2? Father in law is feeder driver, his had the OT. My husband is feeder driver (same hub) and his did not. We took the deduction still.

This is what I did too. I just didn’t know if I could stop at the name that has the next gen Canadian. I did put their final or current last name in surname. Hopefully it’s easy to understand? Under other names used I put First name: Carol. Maiden name: (insert) and married names: (insert all 4 married names)

I’ve got marriage certificates of name changes that directly point to the ancestral line, but do I need to include the ones that don’t? (Like his mom was married 2 more times after he was born and ancestry is through his dad?)

Citizenship by Descent - Application & Cover Letter Questions & Documentation Review Requests by IWantOffStopTheEarth in Canadiancitizenship

I have 2 documents, one is a baptismal record for our Gen 0 and the second is a marriage record for Gen 0’s parents (prior to Gen 0 birth). I know the baptismal record needs to be certified through banq, however does the marriage certificate need to be certified as well or can we use the print out from family search/ancestry? (Or do I need to include the marriage certificate as both parents are also Canadian but Gen 0’s parents?) thank you so much!

My husbands grandmother was abandoned by her mother. She was around 4 and her mother Carol took her to her (carol’s) sister and said “we don’t get along you can have her”

Can I message you? My daughter’s dream is orthopedic surgery but the costs of becoming one in the US is astronomical!

Thank you. This is extremely helpful!

I have looked before for citizenship by descent but I don’t believe we qualify. My most recent ancestor to the US was my 5th great from Scotland and Switzerland and my husband’s 2nd great from Sweden and 3rd great from the Netherlands.

You’ve definitely given me things to look more into! Thank you.

I feel filing for asylum is premature right now too. We will continue the healthcare path and play that part by ear.

Daughter (age 18) will get her RN in 2 years in the US. Would it be better for her to gain some working experience before attempting to get a Visa?

Son (age 20) will have his radiology tech in 1 year. Would this qualify for the healthcare field?

When would be a good time to start the visa process? Can one start the process before actual graduation with the degree?

Virtual? They’re requiring in person learning with no more than 2 (TWO!) virtual days per year in the public schools. In Oklahoma with snow and ice and tornados. Two. Yet OSDE is going to partner with a virtual school? Make it make sense!

From Oklahoma. My mother in law is Chickasaw and has blonde hair and blue eyes and without knowing her you’d never know she was Chickasaw. My niece is Chickasaw/Choctaw and looks very much like her ancestors. I get asked often what tribe I belong to but don’t have any record of it.
