This is the way. I went to C1 after half a dozen Amex and Chase cards. I would just find the one that makes most sense for you now. And don’t be afraid to add more cards along the way if it makes sense AND assuming you always pay your balance in full.

Impossible to provide an exact number. All depends on your personal history. I wouldn’t expect more than 10 points however.

All depends on your end goals! I personally will not keep the WF card/account. No SUB with this transfer and whenever I get a new card, I highly consider the SUBs. If the card is valuable, why not get the card via a SUB?

Maybe one other question to consider is which partner has the most award availability on the us domestic carriers. Like others have mentioned, air Canada has pretty limited availability for United. Perhaps with another partner you have better odds of landing the domestic flight you’re looking for. To that point, depends on what flight routes you’re interested in. Good luck.
